Folks I am sick and tired of potting up peppers.
How much is enough for crying out loud.
So far I have had no manzano come up or red mushroom.
I have had a few manzano germinate but then croak.
But every day I see another darn pepper sprout.
I wish I would have invested in a heat mat so I could keep the soil temps up.

I got sick and tired of waiting on Maidens fire to germinate and put the tray outside in the cold.
I looked down this morning and what do I see.
You gotta be kidding me it hasn't been above the 50's in a week and in the 40's at night.

I have had most germination problem with some chili peppers than tomatoes.
If you want fast results, need to keep the soil warm/wet. 80F to 90F.
I used medical heating pad ( Sunbeam, with 5 settings , bought from Walmart).
It worked fine at the lowest setting. Even then I had to pad it more to keep temp at 85F.
I had germination time anywhere from 6 days to 12, eight
By the time you are ready to give up, some will pop. I have heard some take more than 3 weeks.

BTW: If you need more Manzano (orange) and Ricoto (Red ) let me know.

I have a pile of manzano seeds but no red rocoto.
I have found a heating pad and set a folded up towel on it and then a seed tray of tomatoes I am trying to start.
I have a meat thermometer slid between the towel and the tray set to go in alarm at 95 degrees.
The pad is set on low.
It has been there for awhile and is hovering around 82F.
If and when these germinate I will try it with manzano.

Worth, you're killing me with your plants! I have so much longer to wait, not fair, :bummer: Of course all this waiting and reading leaves me with more time on my hands to keep redoing my list of what to grow:?:
Anyways, you give me hope. Happy New Year to you and everyone!

The alarm just went off at 95 F on my heating pad seed starting thing on low so I shut it off.
This was with the tray sitting on about 2 inches worth of towel.
My next move it to try a couple of spacers between the towel and the tray.:dizzy:

Worth what I do to keep a tray a bit warm is to put it in my electric oven with the light bulb on. The bulb gives off enough heat to keep the temps around 80 degrees. If you have a gas oven you still could do the same but you may need to crack the door open a bit with the pilot light on as well.

About the only thing I have to report today is my electric bill.
It went up by an astounding $15 from last month running the lights.:lol:
I have no idea what it normally is this time of year.

Yeah, sure. ;)
I think I read you mentioned using 150 watt per sq-ft ?? is that right ?
My 48" double bulbs use about 25 w per square foot early on (32w/bulb).
I use them as light source, not for space heating. My extra electric bill for running 3 of them for 2 month (16/24) is about the cost of buying a coffee at Starbucks once a week.:))

Yes but that is output not consumption.
My total consumption was 276 watts for 12 100 watt equivalent CFL bulbs.:D
The only other lights on in the house are right above my head and they are CFL also.
Right now I have half the lights unscrewed because I dont need them.
I really like the versatility of the set up.
