Canadians and Texans have some things in common. Ice is one of those things - one wrong step and hello frozen ground. As I age, I'm finding the ground to be farther down than it used to be.

We do tend to have more ice/freezing rain than snow here, and some years neither happens. If I were to pick between ice or snow - I would pick snow any day. :yes:

yesterday we got close to 40 degrees, a welcome break.

today, winter advisory. temperature plummeted, and we are getting 5 to 8 inches of blowing snow. my wife cleared the driveway twice while i was at work. when i got home, the drive was half blown in again. we will have a job opening it back up in the am.

It was 60 today, low of 19 tonight... really?

Got a nice 2 or 3" of compacted sleet last night, and no temps above freezing in sight. Roads will be slick for a while.

Ugh, that's no good.

We had near record warm temps yesterday AM, in the the low 50s. Had a lot of rain in the early afternoon, luckily it slid off to the east as the temperatures crashed into the 20s. So we escaped much freezing rain. Any puddles from the 1/3 of an inch of rain froze and like you, we should be below freezing for the next 7 days--if not below 20 for the next 5 or so.

At least with our last cold spell we had gotten a couple inches of snow before it hit. Now the ground is 100% bare with some sub zero nights ahead--bad for perennials, not to mention frozen standing water in fields--bad for winter cereal crops.

We should get a few inches Sunday night.

I has been below freezing and very windy here again, but no precipitation. The temperatures are actually what you would expect here. The thing that is different is that the past two winters were both way warmer than usual for here in this part of Texas. You start getting used to it being warmer than normal, and now this typical winter feels cold.

It could be a whole lot worse as many of you have shared.

Its rare to get ground soaking rains in summer here but ive just had 3 days of light rain that's broken a three month dry period. Next three days is supposed to be around the 30degC 86F mark so growth!!, expect lots of growth.:yes:

I like winter, but this year winter has been terrible. Bitter cold and no snow.

Coastal South Carolina has had more snow than we have.

I can see your point - I also hate snow-less winters.

I love snow... and lots of it. But if there isn't going to be any significant snow on the ground, then I'd just prefer it be a warm season so I could grow things.

I just filled up bins of water in the back of my truck, totaling 70 gallons, which is 583 pounds. I have all-terrain tires on the back, so with weight, my 2wd truck is almost as good as 4wd. In fact, I'd prefer it over a lot of 4wd vehicles I see with worn-out street tires.

It's been warm here too, most of the snow is gone, expected to hit 60 F today before it goes back downhill. Single digits forecast for tonight, a more than 50 deg F swing.

3-4 inches of fresh snow here this morning. And temps forecasted to be cold all week.
