[QUOTE=Worth1;471366]Old school raisin pie with black strap molasses, dark brown sugar, lime juice, corn starch, clove and cinnamon.
Pie crust, lard, flour, pinch of salt water, a wee pinch of baking powder and sugar.
I made both recipes up years ago.
I was about to buy another pastry blender/knife at the store and it dawned on me I had a mixer now.
The thing is the cats meow for mixing pie crust.

I haven't had a raisin pie in 30 years. I will have to attempt to make one soon. I like that you use lard in the crust. The only way to go.

Bear lard makes for the best pie crust!

The other day I mentioned I was making corned beef brisket.
The small end was ready so today I made a really big Reuben sandwich.
Along with my pickles I made the other day.
Trust me it tastes as good as it looks if I do say so myself.

Looks like this is about as close as I will get to my garden today.
I woke up to thunder and it is pouring down rain again.
View from the front porch.

What better way to spend a wet rainy Sunday than to make my own version of pumpernickle twist bread.
Let's see how it turns out this time.
The other day I baked a loaf of bread that was so hard the crows had to eat it.
I didn't even try to eat it.
Here is today's attempt.
So far it's rising nicely.

Did you ever do an egg drop competition in school? I had one in junior high school. All materials had to be edible. The egg was placed inside, and dropped off the roof of the school onto grass, about a 20 foot drop.

I baked a loaf of bread, and then kept basting it with butter and kept it in the oven too long. When I took it out, the outside of the loaf was really hard. The inside was soft. I think my entry into the competition would have taken a 200 foot drop; 20 was certainly no problem.

I didn't win though; the rules were that the lightest of the entries to survive the fall was the winner. The kid who won stuck an ice cream cone over each end of the egg and tied them together with licorice.
