I hadn't heard of a foil tunnel before. When I saw your topic title, I thought of THIS. ;)
Looks like a delicious variety of tomatoes. Have you been growing tomatoes in the foil tunnel for a long while? |
I just assumed that Foil = Film was either from a different version of English or a direct translation of Dutch or another language.
I do like the set up. |

Looks like a delicious variety of tomatoes. Have you been growing tomatoes in the foil tunnel for a long while?
I've been growing tomatoes and peppers like this for 3 years now, I the Dutch climate you need to if you want to grow the chinense peppers and for tomatoes it is better to prevent disseases.
I just assumed that Foil = Film was either from a different version of English or a direct translation of Dutch or another language. I do like the set up.
Hmm I assumed I was correct calling it a foil tunnel, but please tell me the correct name. It is possible it is a direct translation. If you google foil tunnel you will get some hits, also poly tunnel. |
^ I did a Google search and "foil tunnel" does indeed come up a bit for these kinds of greenhouses, predominantly in Europe. In the USA, "portable" seems the operative word, among others (check out the Greenhouse Megastore for examples).

Foil seems to be a British English term for it. In the US we'd call the covering a film. A tunnel would most likely be called a poly tunnel after the polyethylene film covering. If foil tunnel is the word that the version of English you learned uses, continue to do so. When I first say the thread title the image that came to me was one of a greenhouse frame covered with aluminum foil, but I knew what you had.

Now things are gowing along just fine, some new pictures

Those tomatoes look amazing, picture perfect! And what a terrific assortment of varieties.
What do you do to encourage pollination inside the tunnel? I noticed in several photos a green mesh pattern--is that the material of the tunnel walls? At some point could you post some photos of the inside, showing the more details on the arrangement of plants inside? :) |

This works fine. Yes it is green plastic material (foil?) and the mesh is to give it extra strenght, the tunnel has to widstand lots of wind sometimes, with the mesh it doesn't rip apart. It is difficult to explain for me in English but I think you will understand. The tunnel is to full to make a inside picture, If i don't cut back now and again it becomes a jungle and difficult to walk thrue. |
