No, but i grew a Bornonia last season,i don't remember it been that size though
Boronia F-7 was 5.5 ounces. It was very good, even though grown in the winter. The wife especially thought the taste was excellent. Tastywine was mushy, first fruit. I am waiting for the next fruit to see what the taste is like.

Here is the photo of Tastywine F-6. It was ugly, split on the top. 13 ounces.
Beautiful color, though!
Color was great. Waiting for the next couple to see how they taste. They are not split and look good.
Wow everything is looking great so far. Are you still Bokashi composting?
I am definitely still doing the bokashi. There is a facebook page that I read also. Its Bokashiworld. I am not using my bokashi yet in the swc's because this is my first year, and wanted to try it straight first. I am going to see about incorporating it in my next grow.
great! :) Seems like you steped up your undercover grow this year? At least from the pics I saw from past seasons.
Cran-Not really with regard to tomatoes-I have the same number of containers in my greenhouse. I did add the city pickers for my garlic and some cutting greens.

Photo of the Tastywine Black sliced. Sorry its blurry. It was really good-I would score it at least a 7.0 and that is excellent since it was grown in my winter greenhouse. My wife, who has a much more discriminating palate than me, really liked it.

Photo of Dwarf Blazing Beauty F-7 today today, 12/15/12. They are 6 1/8 and 5 ounces.
Michael, all your winter dwarfs look delicious! You can't imagine how envious I am with having to be content with store bought tomatoes. Do you manage to get 3 generations a year, growing in the greenhouse? Are you able to grow in the summer with shade cloth?
Dee-Thanks!
Here is my schedule. In September, I have germinated my winter varieties, and put them in the greenhouse and grow them through the fall/winter up to about Feb/March. In January, I start my spring varieties, and get them potted up and in the greenhouse by February. I start them all in a hydroponic system. About the middle of March, I plant outside from the potted up varieties in the greenhouse. And then it begins all again in September! So during the Spring/Summer even though I have a shade cloth, its about 120 degrees in the greenhouse, and I am growing outside in containers. The last two years, the greenhouse varieties have grown well and produced very flavorful tomatoes. |

Some Jade Beauty I just picked also, 12/15/12.

[/I]I have been thinking about experimenting with putting a box of foil-faced styrofoam around my buckets to shade the roots. And I don't know if I'd make my money back from the power bill, but I would even be tempted to pop a window ac in the side of the box. Roots hate to be hot, which is what makes container growing so challenging in hot weather. |

Additional photo of sliced fruit.
Cole-I have a window ac in my greenhouse, and in the desert Southwest, it runs a lot during my winter growout. No way I could use it to cool down my greenhouse during the hot months.
You're killing me with that sliced platter of tomatoes, Michael!
Is the Jade Beauty group close to being ripe? They sure look like they hang onto the bright green color. What is the flavor like? |
Dee- sorry! The Jade Beauty in the photo are ripe-I will post a photo of the sliced fruit tonight or tomorrow. The flavor on this variety is always good.
Thanks for posting, I am enjoying following this thread.
Maf-Happy to have put this thread up. Glad you are enjoying!
