Wow, I'm sorry I missed you guys. I've been so busy with work and two little kids I haven't checked in here much lately. I couldn't have made it today anyway, but glad you all were able to connect. Impressive lists, as always! Hopefully I'll be able to join you guys later in the year for a tasting.

It was a perfect day for a plant swap. Good to see Debra again and to meet Betsy and her hubby. I picked up 3 plants that I’ll have to find a spot for :wink: , and a few seed packets. Also received several donations for Angelique and Kristy in Sacramento.

always late for the party. :( Sounds like the weather held out for you!

I am very guilty for starting early, and all mine have been in the ground feeling sorry for themselves since end of March. One bed out of three have a tinge of purple. The bed away from the brick walkway. I have to believe that they'll recover when the sun comes back!!

Woohoo! thanks to you guys (mostly Bruce) I have a garden!
 

I thought I was going to lack tomato plants this year but now I've got a nice full garden with lots of varieties that I've never tried before. Thanks somuch for your generosity! They look so nice planted in the garden. It really feels like spring now!

Now I just have to figure out what it is that I've planted out there. Simpsons Summer Palace? Krasnodor Titans? Cougar Red? I'll figure it out eventually, I suppose. :)

Hi All,

Thank you for all of the wonderful tomato plant donations. I gave my grandfather the following plants:

Sweet Baby Girl
Eva Purple Ball Tomato
Stump Of The World

He was extremely happy and grateful. I am really glad that he enjoys gardening. It really keeps him active.

I kept the following tomato plants for myself:

Moldovan Green
Sugar Lump

Again, thank you all very much. I just got done planting them. Dang, was it ever hot today.

A very special thanks to Kristy. She met me in Roseville to deliver the plants. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Here are some descriptions of the varieties you mentioned. Hope this helps. Glad to hear you and Angelique have them in the ground already, they were getting too big for those cups.

Garden City Seeds: Their description:

This is a new red tomato that has been grown and tested for cool summer temperatures with a short growing season. This meaty, medium sized fruit is good for whole tomato home processing. The flavor is a good mixture of sugar and low acid. This variety will ripen until frost. Plants of Cougar Red are vigorous and semi-determinate.

Sandhill Preservation: Their description:

85 days. Indeterminate, large, red flattened globe.

This rare Russian heirloom was featured in Mother Earth News in Oct/Nov 2003. The large fruit are renowned for rich, full-bodied, old-fashioned flavor. Taste this tomato and you will see why families in Krasnodar have been saving this variety since the 1880's. Growers rave about how beautiful and productive this tomato is.
