Finally for the past few days we have had no rain and very hot sunny days and the bells are ripening so fast now. Of course sun scald is showing up more also but it is nice to have to go out and pick bells every day now. I pick then once they start blushing or if they have a scald mark on them. The blushing ones will ripen up in a day or two inside without me risking them getting gnawed or pecked.

Picked an assortment of peppers today... mostly hot.
A gentleman that owns 5 Mexican restaurants in this area wants a sampler pack of what I'm growing... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Good haul! They all look high quality. Are you going to have enough yield to supply a restaurant?

Mainly I'm trying to find out what peppers they want and will grow accordingly. I'll supply them till I run out. There's a 2 month pepper window around here, when there gone there gone. |

That's really cool. Fresh pods can only enhance their offerings. I wish you both well. |

Here are 4 ornamentals. Fish, Jerusalem, Gemstone and Roseto. We dry all except Gemstone. Yes, it has been a good year for peppers.

So jealous! My pepper year has been pitiful.
I got an early handful of Shi★★★★os then the plants shut down. They are still healthy, but time and temperature are working against me. Alleppo has yet to set a single pepper on any of the three plants. The plants are super healthy and pumping out tons of flowers all summer, but every single one has dropped. NuMex Big Jim gave me six gorgeous and large peppers in July, and the four plants have done nothing more than set two new peppers between them. Feher Ozone (3 plants) have about a dozen full size peppers between them which have been stuck at the yellow stage for almost two months. Two that had set before I planted them out did get to the orange/red stage (glad I didn't pinch them off), so I'll toss them in the dehydrator and see if the paprika is worth trying again next year. The only Melbourne pepper that germinated was chewed down to stubs by a hornworm. And my Calabrese peppers seem to have crossed with something last year. Instead of wide cherry/cone shaped peppers, I'm getting narrower pointy ones, but tons of them on the four plants. I can't stuff them like I usually do, so I'm not sure what to do with them all. For now they're all still hanging on the plants, but I'm going to have to pick them soon. |

I may have to take you up on that offer, you are growing a few that I would like to try. I'll PM you when I have more time.
Here's yesterday's haul... These were grown from seed from store bought peppers called Mighty Mini, they look just like the ones I bought. A good pepper, sweet and juicy. The yellow fruit appear to be cucumbers, from seeds from the doctor from India... I'm not sure what the other vegetable is, any ideas? They also came from seeds from the doctor. The green one resembles carambola, but those grow on trees. How does this one grow? And how big is it?

Ribbed gourd (a.k.a. ridge gourd)?
|
The green one resembles carambola, but those grow on trees. How does this one grow? And how big is it?
It grows on a vine like a cucumber. It is about cucumber size. |
Then I'd say it's a weird cucumber. Have you tasted any of these yet?
|
Do a web search for "Chinese Okra", a.k.a. luffa... which is what is pictured in the photo. It is a vining, climbing member of the gourd family, eaten like okra when young. I grew it when I lived in San Diego, but it doesn't grow well where I live now.

Great pepper year here too!

I think you guys are right about it being a luffa, apparently they do eat them when they are young in India... Which is where the seeds came from. |
And the peppers keep coming...

Did something cross with a torpedo (from the yellow submarine)?

It's supposed to be a Yellow Monster, doesn't quite look like the pictures in seed catalogs, but a good pepper none the less. |

Spot on. When left to mature and dry on the vine they become the "luffa sponges" used in showers. I don't know any that grow to eat. Very cool plants. |

This has been a very busy week and I neglected picking peppers. My daughter came a few days ago and picked herself a basketful. This is what I picked today and there are plenty still on the plants. The Golden Treasures are so heavy the stems are laid over the supports, I went ahead and picked a few of the still green ones. Hubby has eaten all of the cowboy candy and asked for more. It's too hot for me, I am going to grow a milder variety of jalapeno next year along with the MUCHO NACHO. My freezers are full of peppers which I am not complaining about.
Now to go pick some beans, they have been crazy good this year too. Going to grow even more next year. I think I really should start doing some canning. I'm a little intimidated by it even though my Dad and Grandmother canned just about everything imaginable  |
You need to join the canning club.
Green beans are easy just like hand loading the 30-06. 10 pounds for 25 minutes at 0 to 1000 feet elevation for quarts. I remember that number since I was a child. Worth |
Canning club? Was unaware there was one. I would probably get thrown out :))

There isn't one yet but we could start one here in a social group. There are three types of groups. Public. Moderated. Invite only. |
