My Karma Tomatoes

3 Attachment(s)
Hi all;

My season is well behind most people's but I do have sme good results so far from my efforts. If I can get it to work the 3 pics that should be attached are Karma Pink, Karma Purple MF and Tiaga. All were started April 9th when they were soaked over night and then planted the next day. I had 100% germination. These pics are from 5 minutes ago so are how my plants look 19 days after initial soaking.
Thanks; Pete :)

Those look perfect, and I think they are growing rapidly. So glad to hear of your success in germination too. Thank you so much for this post.

Awesome Pete, not behind at all, ahead in Canada :)
I hope you love them and share seeds with friends on your lovely island :)
Marsha, seems like nearly universal great germination. Thank you for your awesome seed saving skills!

It's humbling.

Last week, we had a few posts about KARMA Purple Multiflora and the multifloral characteristics of it. I now have a single truss with 41 tiny fruit, full blooms, or bloomlets (the tiny things that become full blooms....I don't know what they are officially called) on it. That's awesome!

That's cool about your Karma Purple MF cherry! It does confirm that I don't have the multiflora type at all but instead the regular Karma Purple cherry. Mine has 3 blooms on the spray and both plants are the same. I'm looking forward to this one anyhow and will get the mf seeds next year!

KarenO May 2, 2019 05:35 PM

Hmm even the regular KARMA purple should have more than 3...
it’s very early, see what subsequent blooming is like I think.

Hi all.
Yesterday I did the transplant to my final garden of KARMA pink, I show my first set of flowers, in total 5 flowers and above forming a set of four flowers. Desiring to try these delicious tomatoes again.

KarenO May 6, 2019 10:22 AM

You will have some early ones Nico :)

KARMA Purple Multiflora and KARMA Peach, both doing very well, the Purple MF was very small and slow to start, but is catching up nicely. KARMA Peach has big flowers.

Your plants are looking great :)
I hope you enjoy them!

I think I was out of mf seeds when I gave you them. I know that happened with a few folks, because they were so highly requested. I thought I would have written that on the pack though, or otherwise indicated it, do you see any writing from me on that seed pack?
In any event, you should see a spray of way more than 3. Actually though, KARMA Pink often starts out with the first spray being a smaller amount too, but then it gets to be 7 or 8 thereafter.

ginger2778 May 15, 2019 02:39 PM

BadKelpie, really nice! A joy for me to see them growing so well in other folks gardens.

KARMA Peach and Purple MF went into the ground today! They are also shown by BW Sudduth, just showing those BIG potato leaves.

Hey Marsha, that must be what happened. Nothing but my own handwriting on the envelope but I am happy with the purple one anyway. Both plants had a spray of 3 each and looks like the next spray up will have that many. It's Alaska so maybe it's only going to put out 3 at a time!

KARMA Pink was the first to begin fruit set but KARMA Purple Multiflora first to color break. Pic is of first 2 PM fruit to break.

KARMA Peach just a tad slower growing and fewer fruit than KARMA Pink. (They are sharing a 30 gal. pot so hard to tell from the photo.) Sorry for the leaves; they have proven irresistible to tomato worms vs. Curtis Cheek or Carbon on either side.

They so far all 3 look unfazed with the recent week plus of 99 degree weather, continuing to grow and set fruit.

Looks like KPM has lost the MF trait.

I think it’s a bit early to make any judgements at this point.

I think I will go back to the F4 where the trait was strong in the F3, and try again with a few seeds.

KARMA Purple Multiflora first truss on first plant. The one in the middle was multiple-flowers-in-one type of deal (I don't remember the name of that, megabloom?), I removed it, so it started with more. The one at my house has more flowers and tiny ones still coming on. I'll get a picture tonight. The one at my parents house just has tiny flowers, because it looks like the growing tip broke and it restarted.

KARMA Peach is growing like it's supposed to and is a very vigorous plant.

My first KARMA, a Peach. I've been neglecting my community garden plot because I was moving, and we recently had a surge of warm weather, so when I went today I found huge plants and tomatoes on nearly all of them.

Very nice! It's basically heart shaped, isn't it? They usually haven't been that shape in my garden, but a few were.

My KARMA pink has the first floral trusst composed of six tomatoes forming, has another second composed of six other tomatoes forming and the last trust has 4 flowers.
36 days from its definitive transplant.
I think I'll taste this delicious tomato soon.

Awesome Nico :)

The other KARMA and the True North plants are still small, since they are transplanted to the final garden 25 days later, and they look pretty good.

Karma Pink and Karma Purple MF

Hopefully the attachment shows up in this message! ;)

I am way behind most people as we had a frost two nights ago so we are only just now planting out. The pic attached is of the two Karma's that I got (I also have Taiga and it is going into the ground shortly).

I took off lower leaves on these and planted them deeply into the earth. They seem to be doing well today. :)

Pete
PS: Planted first week of April so up by second week of April. Therefore close to 2 months old at time of transplant.

KarenO June 12, 2019 11:16 AM

Some lanky teenagers you've got there Pete!
I’m glad your weather turned around, they sure needed to be planted :)
I hope now they will fill out and get blooming for you. If you havent, I’d give them a good dose of fertilizer to get them going.
Here’s to good weather for the rest of your season, thanks for the update :)
Karen
