Here in NJ we were not permitted to grow Black Currants until few years ago. But it is still highly regulated that makes it just not possible to grow couple bushes. I love them. They have similar taste as Blueberries, just much bigger bush.
If it is allowed in your state I would recommend them. Very aromatic berries.
Sounds good. Why were they not permitted in NJ?

They are involved in spreading blister rust in the past. Not entirely their fault.
I've had good luck deterring birds in the past with old CD's tied to strings and hanging from things. They blow around in the wind and create all sorts of reflections from the sun that the birds don't like. I've not had many bird issues recently so I'm not using them now but they've helped in the past.
I tried that in my old house, but once they tasted the flowers, it was not working anymore.

Harvest, Harvest, Harvest

Have to catch up on some pictures.

This is my harvest from 7/25. 63 days from plant out.

On my own for dinner, I ate the Uluru Ochre with some burrata and really good thick balsamic vinegar. I think it's my favorite of the dwarfs I grew this year.

So, I asked my husband to write an app for me that would calculate DTM, so I don't have to count it up on a calendar (or my fingers), and much to my surprise, he did it right away. I created to basic visual design. He did all the coding. Here is a link to the app, if anyone wants to try it out.

You can fill any 2 of the fields and the the third will calculate.

Crossed Seed

I got my first accidental crossed seed from seed I saved. This was saved from Cherokee Green, one of my very favorites. I grow 2 plants each year. This year, I got one plant that was true and one that was not. Imagine my surprise when my fruit started to turn orangish red as it ripened.

Cherokee green on the right, crossed seed on the left.

Other side.

Inside.

Taste was just okay. I have more fruit to try, so possibly I ate it too soon when it wasn't quite ripe enough for full flavor.
