Who's attending Tomatopalooza™ V?
I have a bad feeling either no one will show up (as no one has posted they're coming), or 300+ will show up to eat the 10 maters I bring!

Lee
I'm going to get the ball rolling here and start a thread for people to post if they plan on attending Tomatopalooza™ V.

I will be attending and look forward to meeting everyone. ;)

nctomatoman July 5, 2007 05:49 PM

My wife Sue and I will be there, of course....this will make it 5 in a row. Not sure which tomatoes I will be able to bring -too many variables to consider right now! We will have to position bouncers at the appropriate table if some of us bring the Dwarf F2s and F3s...no seeds allowed to depart with anyone from those particular specimens!

Suze July 5, 2007 06:05 PM

I'm giving serious consideration to attending -- need to get on the ball and look at my schedule, as well as the logistics of doing so!

Will try to figure it all out by early next week.

caascher2 July 5, 2007 06:32 PM

I am planning on attending. Are we suppose to bring tomatoes from our garden?
Carol

shelleybean July 5, 2007 07:32 PM

I plan to go. It's on my birthday! :)

Rena July 5, 2007 08:13 PM

Each and every year I say I am going and then something comes up.
Are we suppose to bring tomatoes from our garden?
Yes, if possible. I'm just hoping for more of Martha's Lime Green Salad Sorbet!
Yummmmmmm!

Lee, who will also be there.

JimM_SC July 5, 2007 10:07 PM

I plan to be there and bring Andrew.

I'll be there with the family. I think my teenage daughter wants to come this time since there is music involved! I'm not sure what I'll have as far as tomatoes, since I have only about half as many varieties as last year, but I'll bring all that I can. I may also have some friends that will be attending, and will post a number when I know for sure. Can't wait!!! And I'm really looking forward to meeting Mischka!

Hello all - this is Jimmy in Efland, happy location host for Tp5. This is my first contact on Tomatoville, and I thought I'd check in. Many many friends on our invitation list plan to be here, and it's great to have everyone's deepest tomato passions revealed!
Many friends have bought plants from Craig, or I've given them plants. I think we'll have lots of people, and even a few who've never tasted a real tomato. Hoping for converts.

nctomatoman July 6, 2007 09:47 PM

Welcome, Jimmy, and thanks so much for hosting what I am sure will be a fun, memorable event! (of course, you may be wondering why you agreed after you've been invaded by a bunch of tomato nuts!). Can we turn the thermostat down a bit for the day - the current forecast of an endless string of 95 plus degree days is a bit rough to imagine on gardens....surely we can order up a nice 85 degree day with a light, refreshing breeze and low humidity!!??

By the way, glad you made it here to Tville...lots to read, if you dare take the plunge!

gardenmama July 7, 2007 11:10 PM

I'm hoping to attend as well. I need to check with a couple other folks from the area to see what they are planning as far as driving/carpooling goes.

My production will be iffy then as many plants are showing signs of heat stress from having to be in containers. I've never had a much BER before but this year it seems like half of the varieties are having problems. Not to worry Lee, the two LGS plants are heavily laden with fruits and are doing just fine.

artis July 8, 2007 11:34 PM

I would like to attend (tentatively). It is going to be a challenging trip from NJ and will certainly involve air travel but I do not want to miss such a great tomato tasting opportunity. I might combine the trip with some other activities in the area.

Although NJ is called the Garden State, very little gardening is actually happening around here and my closest event is MAGTAG, which requires an extremely painful 4 hour drive from where I live.

celticman July 9, 2007 08:51 AM

I plan on coming

I'll be their
I am not at all certain what tomatoes I will be bringing. A number of them should be ripe, But can someone please turn down the heat 95+ for days on end is not good for my plants or me.
Tim other wise know a celticman or that crazy man in the middle of cary who grows tomatoes

dgriff July 9, 2007 03:39 PM

I'm out of town that week but will shoot for next year. Need to plan a long weekend around it.

NCTIM July 12, 2007 12:06 AM

Going for three in a row. I'm looking foward to seeing everyone. I expect that my uncle will also be coming back and I'm hoping another friend of mine will also attend. All three of us should have something to bring.

5 days left until Tomatopalooza™!

Anyone else coming? I'll be departing from here late Thursday night so that I can avoid the nasty traffic in NYC.

Initially I had planned on flying but I could use a little road trip fun. I also prefer having my own car vs. a rental. Seems like I always end up with one that smells like it was used to transport wet goats. :dizzy:

Suze July 23, 2007 01:39 AM

I'll be there! Looking forward to meeting everyone and tasting some tomatoes.

Rena July 23, 2007 07:49 PM

Edited to add: Not looking good, have a sick child with the throw ups. Even if she feels better we would not want to share the (germ-love).

nctomatoman July 23, 2007 09:19 PM

Wonderful, Rena! It is always so hard to judge who is coming locally, we always end up fearing few will show - then get overwhelmed! It will be a mystery, that's for sure...but no matter what, we will have a great time!

caascher2 July 24, 2007 08:15 AM

I am excited about attending this Sat. New to growing Heirlooms I am curious about the different varieties that will be there. I know from my own garden what I want to repeat next year, but would like to add a few new ones, so this will be the perfect opportunity to try some out. I will bring some of my tomatoes as well.
Looking forward to meeting everyone too.

I've been in contact with a local newspaper garden writer who is planning to attend - and may publicize it in the newspaper this coming Saturday....though I asked her to word it carefully if she does (kind of a "donate some tomatoes from your garden, and taste a whole load of them with like minded tomato freaks..sort of thing - I want to avoid a massive drop in because we are curious sort of thing).

JerryL July 24, 2007 11:07 AM

I am sooooo bummed that I won’t be attending this year. But with having just returned from Italy (stealth gloat:oops: ) I just can’t get away.

I’m sure Tomatopalooza V will be a rousing success.

Please be sure to take lots of pictures of both tomatoes and people.

GManess July 24, 2007 03:24 PM

We''l be there ... empty bags this year

My son and I will be in attendance, unfortunately empty handed. I got a late start this year and I am still at least 3 weeks out from picking my first fruit. Hopefully things will be in full production for the Heirloom Festival at Monticello in Blacksburg in September. Jerry, I'll wear my 2006 CHOPTAG hat to the event in your stead. Looking forward to the get together and meeting alot of new folks.

Patrina_Pepperina July 25, 2007 10:22 AM

Hope that folks in the Dwarf Project who attend will have some project tomatoes to take and have a mini taste testing with pen and paper in hand.

Of course, there's more exciting tomatoes and all sorts of other wonders at such a gathering apart from the project - I sure would love to be there! 8)

Have a great time!!!

Patrina

Three hours until departure for me...tick - tick - tick. I tried to take a nap but I'm too wound up to sleep. I'm bringing a video recorder and hope to be able to post clips of the highlights when I return home. :)

We're here in Durham -- Morgan, Misch, and I are sitting around in the room talking, and getting ready to go to dinner. See everybody tomorrow!

nctomatoman July 27, 2007 09:21 PM

And what wild weather we had this evening! Glad you all are here (whoops...y'all!). Weather should be fine tomorrow, typically NC type - less of a chance for storms than today. Perfect tomato tasting weather!

See you tomorrow!
