Baker Creek Seeds

Got my order from Baker Creek today. Took only 4 days and was complete. All the seed packets said minimum 25 seeds. To my surprise every packet had at least 50-60 seeds and one had to have close to a 100.
Plus they sent 2 extra packets as a "thank you".
They now have a lifelong customer.

sounds like a winner Mike ! ~ Tom

I have used Baker Creek for several years and also like them.

montanamato March 8, 2006 08:29 PM

Ditto, one of my favorites. Customer service still earns points in my book.
Several of the rarer squash varieties I ordered this year had 40-50 seeds also. I always grow too many squash to save seed so I like the value packs as squash seeds germinate well here for 6 or 7 years.

I placed my first order with Baker Creek this year...I was very pleased with their quick delivery, packaging and overall customer support.

Tania April 11, 2006 01:16 AM

I am also a returning happy customer - I ordered from Baker Creek in 2005 and 2006, and I was very pleased with the packs and the germination.
Very good place to shop for heirloom seeds indeed!

Sounds like a good seed company to send some of my seeds next year. They have a very nice heirloom collectiona and a marvelous catalog too.

bugsy September 4, 2006 06:20 PM

Yes, i must say their paper catalog is my favorite garden porn. Also, I like their varieties, the amount of seed in the packets, their prices, shipping, eh I guess I like everything so far. I like their squashes and melons too.

Plant Lady September 20, 2006 11:16 PM

I have also order from them and have been very pleased with everything that I got and it was very quick delivery.

Wow. GARDEN PORN!!! I thought DH and my brother were the only ones that used that expression (when making fun of me).

I really like Baker Creek. However, I do wish that I could pay online. That is the only major change that I would like to see. They are definitely VERY generous with their seeds and freebies. :D Their prices are also super reasonable!

Next year, I definitely want to try growing their sweet potatoes. Yum.

montanamato September 21, 2006 12:09 AM

Angelique....Are you thinking of Sand Hill instead ? I think they are the sweet potato folks...Baker Creek does let you pay online....The Sand Hill catalog is pretty austere as far as garden porn goes...Only garden nerds, like myself can study a Sand Hill catalog.

Oops. You are definitely right! I actually love both sites/companies. I already have a tentative 2007 purchase list for Baker Creek. I also have one for Sandhill Preservation.

I have a hard time keeping them straight too, as they are the 2 places I also order from every year...plus some small orders from elsewhwere, but between SH and BCH I can get the bases covered....

B4Real October 1, 2006 02:13 PM

I have bought from Baker Creek the last 2 years and just placed and received my order for the 2007 seeds. their seed packs grew out true and they are reasonably priced and they are very friendly. I will be buying from them for a long time.

honu October 11, 2006 02:38 AM

I love Baker Creek, and did 2 orders from them this year. They made a mistake on my first order but corrected it quickly, let me keep the mistake seeds, and gave me some bonus packs to make up for the error. They've got a lifelong loyal customer in me.
Great selection of interesting varieties, beautiful catalog, and outstanding customer service!

amideutch October 13, 2006 05:36 AM

I would also like to echo what everybody else has been saying about Bakercreek's excellent track record. I just received my order from BK for 2007 and no problems with shipping to Germany. Well Done. Amideutch

Make that 2007. Ami

Was down to Silver Dollar City at Branson, MO a couple of weeks ago with the family and stopped by the Baker Creek booth there inside the entrance. Picked up some literature, a couple of packets of seed, and when leaving at the end of the day, a cool pumpkin (Rouge Vif d' Etampes) that I'll soon collect the seed from. Nice stuff, can't wait to see the '07 catalog.

Baker's Creek Seeds

I too, love Baker's Creek Seeds. I have been delaing with them for several years. If you want a real treat, plan on going to the Spring Planting Festival. LOTS of great music, beside seeds & plant vendors. Missed the Fall Festival, one of these days I'll go. Was too busy hanging on to my 2006 garden failure.

carolyn137 November 15, 2006 06:23 PM

Mickey, great to see you here.Remember that plant you sent me to me a few years back from the Baker Creek Spring show?

Where's your partner in tomato crime these days? :)

ihateweeds November 16, 2006 02:03 PM

Baker's Creek

Hi Carolyn!
Yes, I finally caught up with everyone! I suppose you know that Jere Gettle got married (lovely girl!), I am waiting for my catalog to see the Wedding pics. Stinker does not have them on his website. I met her this past Spring, not sure Jere is worthy of her : )
I've been reading your posts, darn those hips! And, rehab! Wish I lived closer, I'd take real good care of you!
My partner in tomato sauce crime is around, she's been super busy with work. I will nag her to sign up here. All of us (save two or 3), had a HORRIBLE summer! So much so, that we wonder why we even bothered. Our tasting was less than half of last year's. You name the disease, we had it!
Thanks for the note! Looking forward to this new tomato heaven site!

George Sims November 24, 2006 06:33 PM

Jere's got some wedding pics up on his "IDig" website.

LoreD December 2, 2006 11:50 PM

FYI, Baker Creek is offering free shipping until Dec 15.

Thank for the info LoreD :) I love free shipping :)

carolyn137 December 3, 2006 03:58 AM

In the past Jere had offered some varieties that were not pure and in sharing that with him I found him to be most receptive. He is no longer dealing with Seeds by Design, following the path that Linda at TGS also has taken.

He also was very understanding about my not wanting to contribute any articles to his Heirloom magazine when asked to do so.

Not all seed company owners have been as receptive about things as has Jere.

But there are others who also share his degree of honesty and understanding and spirit of cooperativeness and making things right, and Glenn at Sandhill, Linda at TGS, Mike at Victory Seeds and Marianne at mariseeds are some of them.

LoreD December 3, 2006 02:35 PM

I feel that we should all "spread out" our business. I want to keep all of these companies, TGS, Baker Creek, SandHill, SSE, and Victory, in business. Even if it costs me extra in s/h charges I'm placing smaller orders with a variety of companies.

I think its the best way to keep all of these reputable companies from becoming vulnerable to the Monsantos of the world.

And I applaud your viewpioiint Lore, very much so, and agree wholeheartedly.

Seldom did I ever order tomato seeds, ahem, but thru the years I've ordered seeds of lots of other veggies and I always spread my orders around for the very reason that if we as growers don't, the income will not be there to sustain so many small excellent companies.

I also do the samething....I usually order from at least 3 different places, they all may be smaller orders, but I feel I am helping to keep them in business even with my small order or at least making it worth their effort to keep sending me a catalog.

Adenn1 December 5, 2006 06:29 AM

Add me to the list of those ordering seeds from companies I have had good experiences with...and want to keep in business. In addition to the companies Carolyn mentioned...I also like Heirloomseeds.com and HeirloomAcres.com.

Do I need more tomato seeds...well really no I don't as I dont have a lot of garden space. I do talk a few others into planting a few of my varities. But I figure that I have them for trades and will store them for the future. I do need some new cukes and beans...
Thank for the info LoreD :) I love free shipping :)
Thanks for that info. I ordered from them last year and was very pleased.
