Anyone see this before?
 

A couple of years ago, I got free seeds from Delectations of Tomatoes for a variety Dale called "Unknown Evil Olive Off- type". As promised, it delivered weird, somewhat multilocular blobs.

But they were tasty and I ate many while messing in the garden. Assuming they were F2 and would continue to segregate, I saved seeds and planted this year. I only had room for 3, but...

One has a white stripe up the stem, and suckers and petioles arising from that strip are chlorophyll free. There are a few leaflets here and there with white splatters.

Something like variegated.
I have Walter's Fancy, Elsie's Fancy and Pico's Pride dwarf tomatoes - they have similarly colored leaves.

Having grown a few variegated leaf tomatoes several years ago, mostly as a novelty, found none of them particularly tasty. If you have a variety that shows interest and tastes good all the better. None of the variegated leaves remained bi-colored very long and soon were all green. Has this variety's green/white lasted?

This variety in the F1 and F2 was of uncertain appeal, and Dale was careful to explain.

But I love to experiment and may even clone a cutting and overwinter it to compare against seedlings.

I doubt if very many besides us gardening fanatics would care much. So far the fruits have resembled a small Riesetomate, with a tart, strong flavor I enjoy...but isn't currently popular in the marketplace.

I'm growing another labelled "Kitayskiy Oksamitovy" that so far promises to be "meh" regarding production, but is the most interesting, rampant, disease-resistant and drought-tolerant variety I have ever grown.

But it has really interesting fuzzy, minty-gray-green foliage.

I have 80 tomatoes this year, about a dozen to fill canning jars, and the rest for fun.

Normally, these ripen red (yellow skin). Interesting to see what happens.

Did you flick out the seeds to save before you ate it? How was the taste?

I have not eaten it yet, but intend to and save a few seeds.

Final report for 2023:
The "pale rider" got slightly more color but not a lot. There weren't many seeds inside and those that were were small and round, resembling tomatillo seeds. Some of them fell through the kitchen sieve l use when processing.

We may see what I get next year.

Next report: the little babies, having substantially burned up the energy supply in the seed, are dying.

We learned that some mutations are NOT successful.
