2017 Ugly Tomatoes
3 Attachment(s)
This is my Entry to the 2017 Ugly Tomatoes. It is a "Porter House" Tomato from Burpee Seeds. I picked it this morning to keep the plant from putting any more energy into it.
Early bad weather stuck a cluster of tomato blossoms together, I noticed that, but just let them grow and this weird tomato was the result. 3 Photos , are the same tomato. walt |
Why did not let it to get ripe ?
Cat faced tomatoes are amusing , to me. My CP grew few of them last year. Perfectly round tomatoes are not fun. |
That is butugly. Looks like a purple calabash I once grew.

Should I glue it back on ?

I didn't want the results to be tainted by this Dangerous man eating Tomato. I will sleep better knowing that it is not out there at night growing, planning, and doing strange things. walt |

It looks like there are 3 tomatoes in the picture, but there are only two. It's supposed to be Brandy Boy OP.

. Really looks like three. That might get ugly.. Wonder if it will ripen evenly?. |
Brandy Boy Won't get ugly. It has a Habit of growing some double fused boat shape fruits.
|
I've got a Barlow's Best Black that is a montrosity of a fruit. I will post a picture when it gets large enough to scare the youngsters :)
|
I seem to always have triple fused ugly tomatoes early in the season. IMO they should be culled.

Here's my ugliest so far. JD Special C Tex.

WaltRoos and TexasTomat0 have mine beat by a mile. Mine's just funky looking.
|
And ... WaltRoos wins. Competition over for the year.

My entry isn't ripe yet and is already quite hideous.
|
Cole, I would run for the hills. That tomato looks like it came out of one of the 1950s SiFi monster movies.
|
Well! Maybe the competition is still open. That thing looks like it's devouring a rival.
Maybe Saltie has the right idea. |
Great Entry
I think my ugly has a Don King hair cut thingy, yours has some extra DNA from a squash and a snowball in der mouth. That is one ugly mater.
walt |
That thing is gnarly

Cracked, with underdeveloped seeds visible.I will leave it on the plant until it ripens, though I fear for the humanity's future...

 When it demands meat, don't listen.
|
That's like a car wreck, I just had to look. Gave me shivers.
|
Too much nitrogen+cold temps=this monstorsity.Looks like 3 full wheelbarrows of half-decomposed pig manure was a mistake. Many plants are showing signs of medium nitrogen overdose, but some don't seem to mind at all.Weird.
|
"half-decomposed pig manure"
With "half-decomposed pig manure" No wonder it looks like it just wants to leave town, or like it's looking for a major role in a Batman Movie.
" half-decomposed pig manure " No thanks, Never walt |
Has anyone tested the market for ugly tomatoes? Some of these guys might go for $50...
"Scare your children. Scare the neighbors' children. Terrify Aunt May!" "Shocking proof that aliens are among us!" |
" half-decomposed pig manure " No thanks, Never
walt
Never again.And the smell was...dreadful. |

I'm with you on this one, so I'll just be spectator. Fused/mega blooms also get removed as they seem to stall a plant's ability to set set additional fruit until the resulting monster tomato is removed. |
Wow, Hudson. That thing got beat with the ugly stick.

Hi Cole, Ya - I let it suffer too long! Temperatures got a little too cold in the GH when the poor thing was trying to set fruit - I think! |
