Andrey- SO happy to see your variety list this year and your starts.
Is Tyulpan Rozovyi (aka Pink Tulip in English) a newer variety? It seems I have seen it in a few pictures recently. I am also wondering, have you grown the two Slivka's before?
Thanks,
Heide

Heide, these 3 varieties are new for me, but they are quite popular here in former USSR countries.

This is Alexandr Bendrik, father of these 2 really prolific plum shaped tomato varieties. He is 76 y.o. from Ukrainian small town Horodnia near Chernihiv.

@Andrey_BY WOW those look amazing and so glad you are back!!

hl2601 March 22, 2023 10:31 PM

Andrey, thank you for all those pictures. Fabulous!
I especially love the photo of Mr Bendrik. As you know, I ran a Ukraine Tribute grow out last year so I am partial to Ukraine varieties. A friend from Ukraine actually just sent me these exact seeds! Here are my descriptions:
Slivka Bendrika Krasnaja- Ukraine 50-80 g 2 m tall pink- Bendrik’s red plum in Russian, mid tall thick stem RL almost rugose cross of De Barao Yellow and unknown USA red tomato. Plant appears like a waterfall
Slivka Bendrika Zholtaja ez tomate- Yellow sister to the above

Can you tell me if these tomatoes are long keepers? Is there any other info I should add?
Thank you!
Heide

Heide, you've got a good information about these 2 varieties with red (not a pink!) and yellow fruit.
I can add only that these are very desease and draught tolerant varieties. Mr. Bendrik use watering only serveral time after translant in open ground and then let seedlings grow strong deep roots to find extra watering.
These Slivkas are with thick walls and good keepers indeed.
They are very prolific since both parents lines (female red variey from US and male De Barao Yellow are very prolific). One truss hold up to 20-25 fruit (1.5-2 kg).
Really waiting for testing these varieties this year:D

Andrey_BY March 23, 2023 08:22 AM

Thank you, Denise and Spike. Just have more time now.
Happy gardening - to all of us!

My dacha these days :)
It's time to change the upper soil on one of tomato greenhouses this spring.
Roses and rododendrons are still under covers.

Andrey-you have such a lovely area with great growing space. May you have a wonderful season.

So cool to get to see another part of the world growing tomatoes! I had to google dacha, what a nice growing space. I am in California and we had frost again last night, very unusual for us for in March, so I sympathize with your extra snowfalls. Hopefully spring will bring more warmth soon!

Thanks, Dak.
More than a half families here own or rent dacha in the country. That's our Soviet heritage to have a small piece of land (usually about 600m2~0,15 acre) with a small handmade summer-house and several greenhouses.

Our weather are to be much better in a week;)

Barb_FL April 4, 2023 04:31 PM

Thank you for the update. Your plants look great on the windowsill.

I loved the pictures especially those with Alexandr Bendrik.

Wishing you a wonderful growing season.

Dacha is blooming and to be prepared to transplant seedlings in greenhouses.
When I have no opportunity to change old soil in GH I change row scheme as on first 2 photoes below.

We even had Northern Lights last weekend for the first time I'm living here.

deltoro April 26, 2023 07:18 AM

I see that life is waking up at the dacha and work is in full swing :)
In relation to my location, you have 2 weeks ahead.
Beautiful pictures of the aurora.

I'll be planting it in the greenhouse in 2 weeks at the earliest. I want to avoid the risk of frost

Andrey_BY April 26, 2023 07:42 AM

Deltoro, you are about 900km away to the West from my dacha and you are located close to the Baltic see. So your climate is a bit different. Maybe about a week from us with even shorter spring:)
My older daughter now is living in Warsaw. And they are 2 weeks ahead Minsk with much warmer weather;)

rxkeith April 26, 2023 08:39 AM

you are certainly ahead of me.

snow has finally disappeared off the garden the past week. still have piles of it on the
ground, and under the pines. but, we are getting there.

Andrey,
I was looking at pictures of your trees. They have more developed flowers than mine. In addition, your tulips are already blooming nicely, and mine just woke up :)
In Poland we also have big differences. In Pomerania, I can have a delay of 2 to 3 weeks compared to the south of the country.

Andrey_BY April 27, 2023 02:56 AM

Tomek, our tulips are ready to bloom, but only few are blooming now;) And today is much colder outside (only +4 +8 C). April is very changing here.
I've been to Krakow once so I understand that South Poland is much warmer.

Yak54 April 27, 2023 05:01 PM

Andrey

I see you are growing Tarasenko #7. Have you grown # 6 also ? Which one do you like better ?

Dan
Since I've introduced Hybryd Tarasenko 6 to US and W.Europe about 15 years ago I have to say that I'm in love with all Feodosiy Tarasenko tomato varieties. They are vigirous, very prolific with large semi and multiflora-type and tasty. Actually they are noy hybrids, but a stabilized crosses. But In USSR we called they hybrids.
Hybrid Tarasenko 7 is the only Tarasenko variety with bushy type of plant 80-100cm high. It said to have PL so this is my first time to try it;)

KarenO April 30, 2023 10:52 AM

I have grown Terasenko 6. A very tall and vigorous vine with medium globe shaped brown fruit. It did quite well here for me. I have tried a number of the Terasenko varieties my favourite was Chyornyi of the ones I have grown. They all seem to do well in general here in Canada although I had some issues with BER on the pointed reds.
I am interested to see what Terasenko 7 is like, I hope you post photos. Is it a pointed red?

KarenO
