What does P1, P2 etc. mean?

I know about filial generations, F1, F2, etc, but I don't know what P1, P2, P3 means. Are they synonyms?

P1=plant 1 - P2=plant 2
For tracking different plants of the same variety & filial generation.

Ahhhh good to know.
Another question; when growing out the F3 of a cross, how many plants would you grow to have a reasonable representative group from which to select the best to save seed from for the next generation? Is 10 too few? 20?
