What is your best tasting "red" tomato?

For the past few years been growing Neves Azorean Red and Aker's West Virginia. They produce well in our Florida fall and winter/spring climate. What is your favorite "red" tomato? :) Germain Red is also very good, but not very productive for me.

Aker's WV was stellar this year- great flavor, size, and the plant is nice and stocky.

Both Akers's and NAR are excellent red tomatoes. If I had to pick one, it would be Aker's!

Not really a fan of 'red' ones, unless they are the pink type. If it has to be 'red red' then some cherry varieties. Gardener's Delight, Sweet Million F1, Koralik... all are tasty and prolific and seem to withstand diseases.

Estler's Mortgage Lifter and OTV Brandywine are my 2 best this year.

Bulgarian Triumph

Klara for a large tomato.
Iva's Red Berry for a cherry.

George Detsikas Red and Sakharnyi Gigant were excellent this year for large tomatoes.

This years best red is EM-Champion. It's listed as determinate, but produced outdoors early ( 65 dtm) and through the season for me in an exceptionally hot summer. It's a heart, with great sweet taste. In my greenhouse Couilles de Taureau (80 dtm) has been outstanding, and nothing has tolerated the heat better.
Brutus.
Is that Brutus Magnum? I may have remembered it wrong but thought I grew one named that a few years back and it was pretty good.

I am a Chapman fan, it has a unique taste that is certainly not redundent.

pmcgrady September 18, 2018 02:37 PM

Chapman have done well for me 2 years in a row, taste is very good. Grew Brutus first time this year, a good tasting tomato also. The seeds I had were just called Brutus

In your first post you said Germain Red variety, but that would be Germaid Red.

Just so happy to have Tania's data base back again.:)

Since no info was asked about size, shape, weight, etc., I'll be back with my list in a day or two.

And I'll try to select varieties, each of which I've grown for many summers since there are always those summers when, at least for me, my tomatoes have not done well at all and tasted lousy.;)
