Corned beef and cabbage?
Saint Patty's Day...anyone? Got a #4 1/2 flat, ready to go... Red potatoes, lotsa cabbage, throw some bacon in there, turnips, parsnips,carrots... It's gonna be good!

There's a thought... I could handle a Jiggs Dinner right about now. ;) Don't forget the pease pudding it's the best part, it's the magic for salt beef. :P

That was dinner Sunday! Was enjoyed!

My husband buys himself a corned beef and cabbage meal for lunch from a local restaurant. I can't stand the stuff so no point in cooking any.
I will toast the day with a good stout, it just won't be a Guinness. Can't stand that either. Can you tell I'm not Irish???? |
Probably sauerkraut and wurst of some sort along with English peas taters and carrots.
Worth |
Bangers, fried taters and onions, steamed cabbage.

Aaaaaaagh. It's Paddy not Patty. We get quite twitchy about it :) http://paddynotpatty.com

Much of your Irish lingo carnies over to us hill folk here in the US.:) Like wadaya. Worth |
Ahahaha too funny... I didn't even notice the misspell and had to go back looking. :))
The name Patrick does lend itself to many forms and abbreviations, they are all one to me. I remember the one I knew in high school, ended up Pard. :surprised::) |
I made Irish Beef with Guiness stew served over mashed potatoes for the family this past Sunday :)
|
Week long fare here. FInish one brisket, only to start the next. Carrots. Onions. Irish potatos.
Long Irish traditions in this end of the world. |
Any day is a good day to eat cabbage :)
Remember that Patty is a woman's name short for Patricia (Sometimes). Paddy is a man's name short for Patrick (again sometimes). |
I pulled a brisket point from the freezer this morning to brine. I think I'm a day or 2 late but it's happening.
I'm up and just finished a crazy kraut made up recipe and cooling the brine for the brisket to take a spice bath. If I don't post pics you know it was terrible..:twisted: It's going on the smoker too. Pastrami wanna be but it might be good, we'll see! |
We're not Irish but I love corned beef and I cook it in the crock pot with a bottle of Guinness. I use left overs to make grilled sandwiches with rye bread, corned beef, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Thousand Island dressing. I don't like sauerkraut and the coleslaw substitute is yummy.
|
A tart coleslaw is good with corned beef, yum. Bubble and Squeak made with corned beef is also very good.
I like to grab the corned beef while it's on sale and can it up for through out the year. I can get everything but cabbage in the jar and have a corned beef dinner in the time it takes to heat it up that way. |
