I found this to be a simple, flexible & cheap grow light stand

Backing out the cost of the PVC cutter, which was $12, and not including the seed starting tray, etc. this setup cost me less than $25 and could be made larger with little extra expense. I found it to be a great idea for a beginning seed starter.

That's pretty much the same as the one I built, although I used 2" PVC and a 4' light. Simple project and pretty flexible for light height. Has served well all winter with lettuce, and herbs. Now in use for starting my seeds.

Yeah, I was thinking a larger gauge PVC would allow for a longer stand if I go bigger with my indoor effort at some point. I have added a couple of clamp lights to the sides to cover more area when needed.

Works well for me.

Mine is basically the same... just a double light that are 4ft.. Mine is made from left-over scrap 3/4 PVC I had left over from building a grow/green house.

Where's that " like button". I need to push it!:lol::lol:. Jimbo

Dude:

What's the spacing between the PVC uprights?

I use a 3 shelf bookcase type set up with 4 feet shop lights but want to add a couple more lights that would sit like this on the garage floor. Great job.

I cut the center bottom piece of pvc at 9 inches... hope this helps? :)

Just a thought.
If the tees on the bottom were bigger they could slip over the horizontal support on the floor.
This way they could slide back and forth.
I have no idea the dimensions right now.

Worth1 April 11, 2017 06:05 AM

I just went out and checked a 1x1x3/4 tee will slip right over 3/4 PVC.
This way there is no extra cutting of the bottom piece just to length is all.
With the machinery and tooling I have I could bore out the 3/4 fitting and it would sip back and forth.
In all reality I dont even need the fittings.

Thank you Worth, and I was just looking at a way to adjust the height and thought about a piece of 1/2in pvc that will slide into the uprights... split the uprights in half and drill some holes like an inch apart and use a small bolt and nut so you can raise and lower it as the seedlings grow... your thoughts??

Well that is not what I was thinking of.
I thought if two ways while I was working.

One would be to NOT drill all of those pesky holes.
Get a 10-24 tap drill holes in the fittings and thread them then use the 10-24 screws as set screws.
Two in each fitting.
An 8-32 screw might even be better or thumb screws.
Instead of a 90 at the top use a Tee.
This way you could have a long stick of PVC and just slide the Tee up and down.
You could even use a hose clamp if you wanted to.
Not to insult but if you or anyone else doesn't understand I can draw a picture.
I cannot express too much how everyone needs to have a screw pitch gauge.
I keep one in my pocket like a knife.
