These are known as Straw Flowers here. They are like dried straw and last forever in dried flower arrangements.
Those are beautiful Whwoz. |

I opened the back door this afternoon and and a sweet scent drifted in. Yep, the Winter Daphne, Daphne odora, is in bloom. Just a few days ago the buds were swelling and this warm weather has pushed them out. It is such a wonderful scent!
For the last two years it has bloomed the first week of February but the two springs before that it bloomed around Jan 15. |
The first 'Replete' daffodil has bloomed. It's a pretty double daffie and fragrant to boot.

The Indian Hawthorne 'Georgia Petite' are starting to bloom and are putting a slight sweet scent into the air.

Shade is increasing every day and soon the ground will be covered with a thick mat of what i call dingle dangles. |

Stay well everyone KarenO |
“Spring is bustin’ out all over”, says the old song and around here it’s true. Despite all the pollen it’s always a special time when the earth renews itself and dresses up for the occasion.
Chinese Fringe (Loropetalum chinense) sports its red fringy flowers while the green foliage begins taking on its burgundy tint. It will bloom off and on all spring and summer. Fothergilla x ‘Mt. Airy’ is a two season plant. In spring it sports bottle brush-like blooms that have a slightly sweet scent. Turning into ho hum green for the summer, the leaves will turn to flaming red in the fall before falling off and leaving the plant naked for the winter. Grancy Graybeard (Chionanthus virginicus) is a rather awkward tree whose branches grow in a rather untidy, every-which-way fashion but it’s glorious in bloom. That’s the redeeming quality that’s kept it from the chainsaw. And finally, the muscadine grapevines are starting to leaf out. Jelly for sure this fall and perhaps another wine making effort. With all of this going on at once and joining the late Camellias and blooming azaleas, I just can’t help smiling when walking around the place! Springtime in east central Georgia is special. |

trout lilies are starting to bloom. they are a native plant that grows along the road.
blooms are a yellow lily shaped flower. the small bulbs are a forage food, but they are tiny. seems like you would spend more energy digging a hundred for a mouth full than the calories they would provide. keith |
