Also some nice looking ???? in the corner of the garden bed where carrots are growing under the row cover. Although it didn't actually produce any 'milk' I still would best guess it a Lactarius of some kind, but I could be mistaken.
I don't bother to eat Russula or Lactarius (one bitter taste was enough for me!) but they are very common and typical of early season mushrooms here. |
Mushrooming season has started in earnest, and there are plenty of lovely black trumpets shooting up in the woods. Also many Lactarius - they're mostly used as piquante salads or salted over winter. (some exceptions apply as there are Lactarius mild enough to be sauteed and eaten without being soaked / boiled first)
Just last week I bought some delicious black trumpets at the marketplace, and the same day a friendly neighbor gave my mom some mushrooms she had picked... I love the harvest season. but it is lots of work. (with apples and tomatoes as well!) |
Be careful of this one Paxillus. It was common to eat them here in former Soviet Union before early 1980s after they had been commited to be toxic.

Thanks, Andrey! Yes, I certainly won't be eating anything that has a bad reputation. :shock:
These Paxillus are really common this year, we saw them on a forage through the woods as well. Laziness on my part, to guess Lactarius without a spore print or anything! Only for things I won't eat, that's for sure. :) There are quite a few kinds of edible mushrooms that we don't bother with at all... but you never know, you can't assume a time won't come that you might be hungry enough to eat less appealing things. So it's worthwhile knowing all the mushrooms that come around, good or bad. |

Finally, perhaps the mushroom season will begin in our country. There was nothing at all in the summer. Today full [I]Macrolepiota procera [/I] (in the picture) as well as Suillus elegans. The rest of the mushrooms are just beginning. But the tomatoes are slowly coming to an end.

We call them Umbrella (Zontik) here in former Soviet Union countries and like them very much fried with eggs and fleur) Their taste is very similar to fish))
