I would like to make the DYI tomato cages from this thread (link posted below)

It calls for concrete mesh, and I can tell just by looking at it that it's galvanized.

I've tried looking at Lowe's and Home Depot, and haven't found it at either places.

I cannot find galvanized concrete wire mesh; whatever this is, it's not concrete wire mesh, because the concrete wire mesh I found is rusted, which won't work. I also tried 'concrete reinforcement wire' with looking for it and no success with that either.

I also can't find it in the openings that are 6" wide; I don't need 6" wide openings, I need 4" wide openings. I also can't find it in the 150' rolls.

The mesh I do find the openings are too small (2").

Can somebody please help?

Its not concrete mesh it is fencing of some sort.
That is where I have seen it, I think.

I've never seen galvanized fence that thick with those size holes.

Check out one of the local FARM & RANCH supply stores. They'll have what you want.

What is it called exactly? Is it cattle prong fencing? Livestock fencing? Since it's not concrete fencing, then I need a name for what it is commonly called. I've never purchased this before, so I'm not familiar with it, nor do I know what to look for with it.

What is the height of cattle fencing/cattle panel (i.e. how high) and what is the gauge for it? I know it's called fencing, but I'm looking for
something in a roll, like what is shown in the picture in the thread.

Thank you for the post, and the link, as well as taking time to post on my thread.

It is very close to what I'm looking for; I'm looking for the same product as the one provided in the link with (with the post you posted) you gave me, but I need it in a roll.

I'm not trying to be picky or ungrateful, it would just be extremely difficult to make into cages from a panel; it would be much easier to make it into cages if it were in a roll.

The only reason I would prefer it in a roll, is because the link I posted
shows the cages being made from this panel, being cut from a roll.

It was made with a light oil on it so it wouldn't rust as quick.

What you would want is what they call 4X4 welded wire mesh galvanized.
Also you can look at field fencing.
The stuff you would use for small animals is called hardware cloth.

The farm supply places would call the rolls of wire [ Page Wire ]

They make galvanized concrete reinforcing wire but nobody seems to carry it. I use the cattle panels from Tractor Supply, usually $19.99 on sale. I put a 16' panel on three t-posts and cut another panel into sections to make alternating V's, four on each side. Thinking about going to three a side. I attach my drip irrigation to the bottom of the 16' panel and smaller tubes from it to each plant.

To my knowledge this is correct, field fence, hog wire, privacy wire, no climb wire. I have heard it all. It depends on where you are from and who you are asking.

But it it definitely is not concrete wire.Its a much heavier gauge,

I bought a roll of the 60" X 100' welded wire roll from Tractor Supply and cut it into 10' lengths. Hubby ran the fence down the center length of our 4' X 10' beds, attached to 3 t posts. The fencing does not run along at ground level, but about 1' up the posts, making the fence able to handle the taller indeterminates. So far, not a sign of rust nearly 5 yrs later. They stay up through the Wisconsin winters, but I figure I might have to treat them at some point. Anyway, its a great system for tomatoes, melons, squash, cucumbers, peas...anything that climbs.

I have several roles I un-role and role up and role away in my wire role stack that I have had for 14 years.

Someone stole my 50X4 foot role of poultry netting about 10 years ago.
I think it was some guys that came to fix the water main where I used to live as my shovel ended up missing too.:evil:

What is shown in the first poster's link is not galvanized. It is oiled or newly produced Concrete remesh. It just hasn't had a chance to rust.

Check the specifications of this product before making any decisions. The wire size is 5 gauge, which is about .207" or almost a quarter of an inch thick. Might be difficult to bend. It would seem to be better suited for vertical gardening supports. You probably need to look at 12 gauge fencing(.105"), to find something to use for cages.
