Two type of Pepper on same plant?

I have a lunchbox pepper I grew from seed. This is a single plant, but it is producing two different types of peppers: bell shaped and pointed (Italian style). I have never seen this before.

Could this be a chimera? How is this possible?

Lunchbox is a hybrid variety. Did you start with commercial seed or saved seed?

Commercial, from Johnny's.

You can get a pretty wide variation between pods - especially early pods - on a single plant, but I've never seen that much variation. It will be interesting to see what else shows up on those same branches.

This photo is three weeks old. It's still happening. A small bell is developing next to the bell in the photo, and the branch above has two new pointed peppers. Loads of flowers coming in. This plant is crazy!

Can you post a pic with all this phenomena? Most interesting:yes:

Here is one the the two new pointed peppers coming in today above the bell in the earlier photo:

And here is the second little bell coming next to its sister. You can see the third pointed pepper in the shade in the truss above.

I wonder if you could save seed and see if any of the child plants do the same. It'd be a great novelty for those 'Grow your own Peppers' boxes.
