Hello, I would like to share some pictures of my tomatoes and other such things from my garden. This year we finally installed a deer and wildlife fence around my garden plot, which has allowed my tomatoes to flourish like never before. I have been very busy harvesting tomatoes and fermenting/cleaning seeds. I only regret that I have not taken more pictures of many other beautiful ripe fruits before I processed them for seed preservation. Particularly a gigantic, perfect Kosovo heart, a stunning set of Oud Holland fruits, and a beautiful bunch of Marnero F1s.
Because we were busy building the fence this spring into the summer, I fell behind a bit on taming the plants and suppressing the weeds. However, in spite of my neglect, my plants have been doing extremely well--mostly because they are not being munched on and trampled by the many deer which visit our mini 'nature preserve.' My garden runs alongside a creek which attracts much wildlife. Since 2016 I have been attempting to trial hundreds of tomato varieties, but only this year have I been able to be moderately successful in that endeavor. The goal of my project is to determine what varieties will consistently perform well given the microclimate of my creek bottom land and the style of gardening I practice. For now the selective pressure is simply to give me viable seeds. If it produces a ripe tomato from which I can collect and preserve seeds, then it makes the cut. When I have exhausted my collection of purchased seeds, I will begin a new trial of my personally collected seed stock. At that point the selective pressure will primarily be taste as well as performance and aesthetics. I do have plans to retrial some of my most highly anticipated varieties of which I no longer have seeds, as I would like for them to get a fair chance to show their stuff.

Thank you all for the positive feedback :-) These are pictures from this season. Most of the pictures of lush tomato foliage are from late July into early August. The vines are still lush, but they are somewhat disorganized from my searching for and picking hidden tomatoes. The deer certainly wish they could still graze like they have in the past. haha!

Thank you all for the kind words :-) I certainly have been busy with this project. It is overwhelming at times, but very rewarding and satisfying when I can enjoy the fruits of my labor. My capsicum chinenses are just now loading up. I started my peppers late, and now I am somewhat hoping for an extended season for these gnarly beast to ripen.

I am heartbroken to learn of Carolyn's passing. I had not been on tomatoville much this season until now that the season is winding down. I am so inspired by Carolyn's knowledge of tomatoes. Her posts are gold. Lurking through this forum devouring what information I can, I feel like I somewhat get to know people through their posts. As I would read various topics, I would always be anticipating a response from Carolyn to authoritatively glean the relevant information I was looking for. Her posts on sprawling for example gave me the courage to implement that style of growing in my garden, as I, like her, am growing out far too many varieties in each season to be able to cage, stake, or trellis them all. I must admit, in my ignorance of her passing, I was waiting anxiously for her reaction to my pictures of my sprawled tomatoes and diversity of varieties, many of which she introduced. I know she posted comments on nearly every thread on tomatoville. I am sad that she will not be able to communicate to me how much she loves it, but I know she does. My successful season I partially attribute to her blessing from above. I miss her wise and informative, sometimes cagey, and always generous posts. I had the idea to take this picture of Carolyn and Craig's books with a few tomatoes significant to each of the authors. We miss you Carolyn!!! <3
