Dotson's Grow List 2019
1 Attachment(s)
I have planted some of my favorites in a Jiffy 36-count seed pod tray, with a few already coming up. I'm a real fan of Terhune, so I'm growing both the RL variation from AKMark (5.42 lb), and the potato leaf variation from Marianna's Seeds. I was also impressed with Aker's WV last year, and I'm again growing a variety from Harrison County, WV that is locally called "Big Czech". It is a very large beefsteak, and was brought to WV by a gentleman with Czech ancestry. I may put seeds up in a future offer for sharing with the community. I'm also giving Big Zac another shot as well, hopefully to get some small pumpkins :D

Spartanburg:
Right with you in Virginia - some of my first seeds popping out. (I graft so it takes another week or two for full size plants.) I have Aker's on my primary list - - but the list is too long like most years -- you must really like it? Jeff |
I have just made my selection.
Ananas Noir, ARGG , Big Beef , Sarah Black, Brandy Boy, Brown Heart , Cherokee Putple, Dwarf Purple Heart, German Queen , Golden Jubilee, Hillbilly , IS RL, PL. Indigo cherry Drop, Kellogs Breakfast ,Tiger Heart , Yellow Plum.....thats,all. I will start in about a week. Right now I am germinating peppers and eggplant. They are popping. BTW, my intended plant out is around early april, passed LFD. |
Going for a biggie :) and pleased to see Zena’s gift in your list :) she can get big too under the right circumstances
Have a great season! KarenO |
Excellent and exciting list.

Aker's WV is a great plant and tomato. It is a very stocky plant, with sturdy thick stems, and pretty resistant to most things. Tomatoes are large, free of defects, and have a strong tomato kick, not too sweet. There's a reason it made Carolyn's top 100 book!!
Karen- I made the mistake of only planting one last year, had to try again! :) Thanks to all for the comments! |
Nice list. I am a big fan of Rebel Yell after only two seasons, and I grow Terhune every year. RY was an absolute machine of consistency and quality last year. I always have a "core group" that I grow every year, to which I add some old ones I haven't grown in a while, plus new ones that appear on "the scene." I think I'll drag out the old Aker's WV now that you've brought it to mind. Here's a few I'll grow this year for sure:
KBX Brandywine (Sudduth) Terhune Big Cheef Caspian Pink Bloody Butcher Aunt Gertie's Gold Malachite Box Wes Azoychka Virginia Sweets Neves Azorean Red Linda's Faux Margaret Curtain Black Cherry take care, stg |
Darin,
I'm not growing Dotson's Lebanese Heart this year, so prepare to save seeds. |
