Resistant potatoes to Late Blight( phytophthora infestans)

20 Attachment(s)
Since 2010, I have varieties of resistant potatoes wiith flowers and have berries) containing seeds.

Now I have seeds collected on resistant varieties:

Sarpo Mira

(Sarpo) Axona

Sarpo Una

Frieslander

A crossing realized in 2010 by a Belgian:Sarpo Mira x Vitelotte Grande

Gold Thumbs(Tom Wagner)

From TPS of Sarpo Mira, I obtained potatoes with colors of different skin and different flesh:

Pink skin and white flesh
Red skin and pink flesh
Purple skin and purple flesh

Yellow skin and white flesh

Purple Skin and white flesh

Black skin and blue flesh

http://tomatoville.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40509&stc=1&d=1388047252

Orange skin and yellow flesh

All these potatoes resist to the late blight and become very big (1 m 80)

From TPS (Sarpo) Axona, I obtained

Pink skin and white flesh

Red skin and red flesh

http://tomatoville.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40511&stc=1&d=1388047339

Black skin and blue flesh

From TPS sarpo una ,I obtained only potatoes looking like the sarpo una of origin.

I was amazed at the resistance of a Dutch potato ( Frieslander) which resisted to the late blight in 2012 (which (destroyed 50 % of my varieties of potatoes).

In 2013, Frieslander was very prolific, decorated with flowers well and in given many berries.

The gold thumbs of Tom Wagner's TPS gave me in 2012 of potatoes with purple skin very resistant.

The crossing Sarpo mira x vitelotte grande is very resistant to late blight and I had

Red skin and pink flesh

I have a few TPS for test if you send a PM.

A batch have 5 TPS and you can have a batch of each variety.

Each variety have one name of a greek letter and number (the ligne and his position in the ligne) or the year of the collect of berries

R:very resist to late blight
r:resist to the late blight

Each TPS can give very much different colors of the skin and the flesh.

Ambiorix,
I believe you are also aware that lower soil pH will inhibit diseases in potatoes (?)
http://www.clemson.edu/extension/hgic/plants/vegetables/crops/hgic1317.html
Those are some awesome looking spuds!

Potatoes resisting to late blight interest nobody?

These varieties produce seeds during 3 months

I have interest in any potato that has natural resistance to disease. I've been lucky to not get late blight. I do have more scab and wireworm damage in older clones so I will grow TPS this year again.

NathanP January 18, 2014 07:42 PM

I have interest as well. Especially late blight. That's been my #1 problem 2 of the last 3 years. Just sent you a pm.

potatowine May 21, 2015 04:24 PM

Your offsprings look great! Do you think the Sarpo varieties has genes for colored flesh which expressed themselves trough self pollination or might it have come from crossing by bee? I hope my Sarpo Mira this year will produce some berries as interesting as yours, they will be growing with Red Emmalie, Salad blue, Highland burgundy red and a whole bunch of my op tps plants from some Swedish white/yellow fleshed - red an white skinned parents.
There's no wind borne blight where I live, but I guess it's just a matter of time so I'm in the works with backyard breeding some hopefully hardy ones.

NathanP May 21, 2015 09:18 PM

I think the color in his crosses most likely comes from the pollen donors. Vitellotte Grande is one such potato, which is a purple fingerling, purple inside and out.

It is possible the Sarpo varieties do have colored ancestors. I have not grown out TPS from any Sarpo's to see.

potatowine May 22, 2015 03:34 AM

I think you are right NathanP, SMVG looks like the ones with colored flesh.

Does anyone know where I can buy Sarpo Mira seed potatoes in the USA? Or a place that will ship them to the USA?

Thanks
Dwight

NathanP May 31, 2015 08:17 PM

There currently do not appear to be many places in the US where they are available commercially. Shipping from out of the US would involve quarantining them and a phytosanitary permit ... not a timely option.

I would try contacting Curzio from the Kenosha Potato Project. He sometime sells through the Seed Saver Exchange as well. I don't know if he has any left at this point, but it is a variety he grows. He has at least two other Sarpo potatoes as well.

I will leave that email link there for now. I don't feel comfortable leaving it permanently, so let me know when you have it so I can remove it.

That would be great... Maybe we can work at trade or something...:D

I am an amateur passionate about potatoes and tomatoes for 40 years.

I do not ask for any money for my seeds just a report of the cultures of my TPS with photos.

I ask for some seeds of resistant tomatoes the phytophtora infestans very difficult to find in Europe.

How many seeds do you want to receive?
