Third Year Onions?
 

Back in January of 2015, we planted onion transplants like we always do here. They grew fine and were harvested in June/July. They eventually sat around until they started spouting in November 2015. So I planted them in an area that only gets full sun in winter after the oak leaves fall.

The first picture is of them growing earlier this year 2016. I left them alone - didn't harvest them - just let them do their thing.

The last 2 pictures are the same onions getting started for the 2017 season.

Onions are biennial, but this will be the third year for these onions. Does that mean they are becoming more perennial or wild?

Looks like they may have reverted to potato onions are the dividing?

Yes, they are growing in clusters.

They are intermediate day onions. They're Red Candy Apple from Dixondale.

Then they have reverted back you more than likely will always have an onion patch there from what I have read and heard.
I didn't know this till I pulled a bunch of mine a year or so ago.
