The $33.12 tomato plant...

I know that grafting has become the latest craze for tomato plant vendors, but this shows you just how crazy it's become. And yes, that's the price for ONE plant. I called them, to be 100% sure.

Wow two 3.99 plants grafted together into one way overly priced gimmick. Im guessing the rest of the price is for the rootstock. Yikes!!!!!!

Sun City Linda February 17, 2015 08:25 PM

I just saw that on TV!:?:

Dutch February 17, 2015 08:31 PM

They have a video and they say it has a "zoomed" up rootstock. They also state that "all" tomato viruses come up though the rootstock and their rootstock stop them.

Come on now gang, it's on TV. It must be true!:surprised:

And TV in this context is TeleVision not TomatoVille......

Mischka February 17, 2015 09:23 PM

In the video at 6:15, he calls them "heirlooms". So deceptive.

chancethegardener February 17, 2015 09:50 PM

Territorial sells these for $19.95. They are called Ketchup 'n' Fries :)

Dutch February 17, 2015 09:58 PM

I think the "Ketchup 'n' Fries" is the one with the potato rootstock. I'm not sure though. Check it out.

Thanks Chance.

You are right, Dutch. I didn't realize that the $33.12 version uses another tomato as rootstock variety. I would bet on $19.95 since not only it is cheaper but you also get to harvest a different vegetable from the "same" plant. Hopefully, both tomato and potato parts start producing simultaneously :D

heirloomtomaguy February 17, 2015 10:10 PM

Even worse

41 bucks for a big beef and pineapple grafted plant.

Worth1 February 17, 2015 10:12 PM

Is there a limit on how many I can buy?
I want to beat the rush if there is.

The other one they were selling on TV was I think Sun Sugar and a red cherry, maybe Sweet 100. Who can't grow cherry tomatoes? :?

Hmm,

Maybe I should turn a wintertime hobby into a money makin' proposition! :D
