Tomato seedling Tower

3 Attachment(s)
I just transplanted my mater seedlings in Jiffy 7's from under the lights to cowpots using FoxFarms "Light Warrior" grow medium with mycorrhiza. Where does the tower come in? Check out the pics below. The first and 3rd are the tower and the 2nd a close up of the CowPots. The tower as I call it is 7 feet tall and is mounted on a piece of particle board with wheels attached at the bottom so I can rotate and move it. Ami

That looks like a sweet set up.

Tomaat April 6, 2008 03:59 PM

I love that idea,Ami. It looks very tidy and the seedlings don't get crowded plus it maximaze the space :).

Just to show how crazy the weather is over here in Europe here are some pictures I took this morning. The pictures I posted above were from yesterday. Ami

Similar here Ami, we got some wet snow yesteday (but only for 5 minutes or so) but It was very sunny (so as today) and the outdoor temperature is ranging from 8 to 9C at daytime and -1 to -3 at night, brrrrr cold !

Andrey_BY April 7, 2008 06:55 AM

Very lovely pictures, Ami!
Snow is not here anymore. I should change tyres of my car ASAP and never used pure cocomix as a soil substitute for my seed starting anymore... Only 50% germination rate this year with this soilless mix...

Sledding party at Ami's house. I'll bring hot cocoa and cookies.

Nice looking tower, Ami. It's a lot less work than my setup. One of these days, I'm gonna get a small greenhouse. [I](My wife has given me the go ahead!)

P.S. What varieties are you growing this year?

I have 6: Cherokee Purple, Mortgage Lifter (be a good year, plz!), Momotaro, Pineapple, Sungold, and Sunsugar. If I see something interesting at the market, I'll add a couple.

OMG, Ami! My wife would faint (or possibly insist I move into our rental) if I planted that many tomatoes.:))

Good for you! I'm green with envy.

Great setup! I wish that I had the space ( and the light) to do something like that. I would imagine if I were to construct such a tower, my four and two year old would try to scale it, and in the process knock it down.

WOW! It seems that your weather is just as capricious as it is here in West Texas.

Nice pics and really spiffy Ami.

I had to split my tomato tower as the flats weren't getting even light from the window. So heres a couple pictures on how they are comming along. Ami

Sorellina April 16, 2008 05:56 PM

Ciao Ami-

Where do you plant out all of your tomatoes ultimately? It appears that you're in an apartment or condominium? I know space is a premium in Germany but surely you don't put all of them on your balcony.

Where in Germany are you located?

freeze12 April 17, 2008 09:32 PM

Ami...WoW..Thats a great plant set-up You have & all the Tomatoes as I am envious of all the varieties You are growing & thanks for the pictures as the plants look great and the scenery out You window is not to bad either!

amideutch April 18, 2008 01:07 AM

Sorellina, thats my upstairs computer, work, grow-room in my home. Most of the plants I grow at home are in containers (My land area is 1200 square meters) and I have a tomato bed set up at work. I'm located in Rheinland Pfalz by Kaiserslautern in southwest Germany.

Freeze, thank you for the kind words and the view from that window is one of the reasons I bought the house.

Here is a link I previously posted of my home and area I live in and picture of where I work where my other tomato bed is. Ami
