Thanks for that list, I'm always looking for people's experiences with different varieties in our area. Although I think you guys are a zone warmer in Nanaimo. Do you find that Black Cherry splits as soon as it starts raining in September? For me they split like crazy even long before they are fully ripe..

good years and bad years maybe ? this was a VERY good year …

Many of my Tomato plants I start to de-commission starting August 15

wether they are still producing or not …..I need to start the long road of

cleaning up and spread out the work to finish before Canadian Thanksgiving ….

Well I only grew 3 OP's - the rest all crosses in progress. But I think Helio has potential to be a top producer in our flakey climate. It is a salad-size yellow but tastes like a red, with a unique deep flavor note which got thumbs up from taste test mogul. I prefer a fruity yellow myself, but the production was impressive - I could see it being a workhorse for market. Vigorous indeterminate, full setting, some double trusses too so lots of fruit.

Hey thanks for the tip your picks are the highest quality !

I will check that one out …….but I need to cut back on actual

plants and varieties..2019.…...My cup overfloweth again this year

and such the worst waste in the end ever …..could not


give away ….process ...eat all the crop . It sure was a fine year .


and I collected 50 varieties of seeds . 2018.

Black Bear, you are the only person on the Internet mentioning Unikainyi. Is it a dwarf? Det? Indet? Red or otherwise? Cherry, bigger?

By the end of the season, my mother & I were funneling all our unused tomatoes to my sister. She & her granddaughter are insatiable tomato fiends, plus she works at a food bank.


What made me feel inundated was picking Post Office Spoonful (large currant) and Post Office Runt (small currant) tomatoes. Never again will there be 2 currants in the same year.

50 varieties... that's a lot of seed saving work!

I'm glad you had such an abundant year. I hear you on cutting back, too. It is possible to overdo the tomatoes, and then you stop enjoying them as much. If it's more than you can eat process and give away... yep it's probably too much. :lol:



I saved some Helio seeds, will be sending some in to Nicky's swap, and if you want, will send a pack with your name on it. That's if you just can't quit growing more varieties... ;)

This year there was less plants and varieties ….but the crop was humungous

Indet. plants with potato leaf foliage. Very high yield of perfectly smooth and round red tomatoes, juicy, with 2 seed locules. 2-3 oz. No cracking. Perfect for canning or pickling whole. Quite early maturing.

Early and long bearing ! Very Productive .
