No, I haven't actually, I do know as I said earlier that some folks eat the pinched off tops but I never have, I only like them shelled, I find the very yound ones still in their pods not to my taste as the pods still seem fuzzy to me but many folks eat them. They may be OK sprouted but that would seem a waste to me

I was at the Nursery today and saw a generic pack of "long pod" Fava beans for sale. I thought why not for $1.25. Any idea how they compare to the ones you suggested?

Hayse, generally the logpods are planted earlier and they often overwinter, they have 8 seeds, the short pods are often used later as they mature faster and have 4/5 seeds.There are some crosses of both too.

There are a couple of varieties that have longpod in the name..Imperial Green Longpod is one.

If you have found one even generic that says longpod on it, it will be fine..

i love growing fava beans my late grandmother from turkey always cooked them with lemon and olive oil and when ever i harvest them i think of her.. they are somewhat difficult to grow here when the springs are very wet

itsbeen an incredibly mild week and i was able to move away some mulch and get a row of fava beans next to my garlic that is just pushing through the ground i plant the windsor variety im hoping to get a descent crop this year as ive had it in the past where they start off strong and then die out which is too bad as they are real good eating

Which Windsor Variety?

Worth, It's good that you to passed that info along. It is a hereditary condition that affects a minority of people of Mediterranean decent.
Favism is associated with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, a genetic condition, but not everyone with G6PD exhibits a reaction to the alkaloids in Fava Beans. A potentially fatal reaction is pretty rare from what I understand.

I'm half Italian, I've consumed much Fava beans in my life and I'm still here. I guess I'm safe.:D

They grow on every community garden in the UK, in countless gardens , one of the UKs favourite and commonly grown veggies, I have never heard of anyone even having a reaction to them.

i grew up eating fava beans it was a staple passed on from my grandparents from turkey so i know im safe with them but i have heard of favism before affecting some people of mid eastern heritage

I am highly allergic to green peppers, but am fine when they have ripened.I am told it is an enzyme in the unripe fruit which gradually decreases as they ripen.

I always think green peppers are growers con to make more money, It must be the only veggie which is sold unripe.

my fava beans look like they had it some of the leaves hve nlck edges,... i really emjoyed mnching on them in my grden althogh i thoght they were low yielin.. i am abot to remove them but notice some of the lower shoots are getting some flowers... when do yo rremove your plants thanks ira
