Here's a few pictures of the progress in my expanded garden this year! I have 24 varieties in the ground, and all are doing great. I already have good fruit set on my two Early Girl plants, no surprise there. Enjoy!!!!

Beautiful plants SSC!
I noticed you barely have a foot between plants in some instances, won't this limit growth? or maybe just make it harder to wade through at harvest time? |
Thanks Banadoura! I have 20 inches between each, give or take. I have about 3 feet between each row of 4, so I can snake my way through there and attend to each one. I am going to bag blossoms to collect seeds- too many bees, too many flowers :)

Here we are on May 3, 2017. DLH is turbocharged, much larger than any plant in the garden. Fruit shown is Terhune.

The DLH looks great Spartanburg! Hope you get nice maters! :). You might need a ladder!.. Jimbo :) |
Plants are looking great, Darin! That's a big'un for sure! Wonder how tall they will get by season's end? Mine are still just little babies in coffee cups!
|
Hi Dee! I'm wondering how tall it will get myself. Last year I had a Cherokee Purple that topped 12 feet, and I have trouble securing them when they get so big. Sometimes I have to let the tops turn around and grow back down the stake!
What does it mean when a seedling outgrows everything in the tray? I mean, all of these plants were sowed on the same day, but this one just stood out? Is this the plant I need to save seed from? I have three other DLH plants. Unfortunately, I lost the PL DLH that came up to disease. |
I think it means you need to keep pampering that plant just to see how much it can out produce the others!
I grow on a cattle panel trellis, so just let my vines flop over when they reach the top. Of course my season is much shorter than yours, so vines wouldn't get as long. |
Great looking garden for sure! You are way ahead of me, I got a late start. Nice work!

Second picture is Post Office Spoonful, a currant variety introduced by NanPA. Last is Stick, a Curl-Leaf (CL) mutation that produces small sized pink tomatoes. |

Pics from today, 5-11-17. Mutant DLH is still leading the pack in size, all sowed the same day! Faelan's First Snow is still exhibiting excellent variegation- getting ready to flower!
