ultra sonic pest repellers

anybody use one of these for your garden? do they work? or am I wasting my money trying one? I have voles moles and or shrews... tunneling pests that ruin the strawberries and peppers and tomatoes and anything with ground cover around it. help!

There was a recently bumped older thread about them. I don't think anybody gave the devices a positive review:

I tried some a couple of years ago don't waste your money

I am so sad. thanks both of you. Cole... I didn't even think to do a search for the info. I haven't ever seen or notices any threads on them.

but after looking at that thread... this is the kind that you put into the ground. not the noise box that constantly emits noise.

They are useless.

By the way, most everything else is, too.

I've tried them all.

I don't know if any of our members have tried this product but it might be worth checking out.

LOL. Who's got feral cat problems.

I spent literally hours cutting up chicken wire making spikes on every other square. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. It's a constant battle for me

clkeiper March 29, 2018 04:43 PM

no feral cats here. too many coyotes. even a couple of our cats disappeared during the day. I am sure it was coyotes.
on the other hand I did snap trap TWO shrews from the same tunnel yesterday and today. woo hoo! they are as bad as the vole and moles. ever smell one of these things. nasty!

Carolyn, the best thing I found for voles, moles, and things that lives in holes (Tunnels didn't rhyme) is a boarder collie.

We had voles and/or moles out here so bad that after I stepped onto/into a collapsing tunnel for second time in the same place that I dug it up and poured concrete in it. In the garden, I would dig the holes for tomato plants and potatoes - start filling one with water and another hole will fill up several holes away.

The boarder collie would dig them up and catch them.

no, it's not. I think I will pass. too many children across the street anyway.I am pretty sure the family would be a tad upset if I nicked one of them across the way unintentionally. We actually did have a family at church whose small son just happened to walk past the window as it was hit by a ricocheted shot from a groundhog shooter last year... far far away from their house and across the road and field. thankfully it hit the outside pane but din't go through the inside pane.

Another shrew caught in the high tunnel. I researched this and am told they aren't "bad"... riiiiiiiight. tunneling and ruining the root systems of any and all rows of plants in the high tunnels and garden. and they are solitary... riiiight I have snapped three of them in the same high tunnel. solitary! maybe I have a new colony living shrew?
