Seed Dispenser

Hi All,

I am looking for suggestions for a good seed dispenser. The last two that I have purchased are junk. I need some thing that can easily dispense very small seed (for carrots, poppies, etc).

Thanks.

Angelique

Which have you tried?

I've been looking at:

I have tried 2 similar to the top one. The spring is really sensative.

I noticed that with really small seeds, that type of dispenser either doesn't dispense or LOTS of seeds come out. It also very moisture sensative. If I accidently touch the tip with moist hands the seeds will not dispense. As a result, I have to repackage the seeds, wash the dispenser and wait for it to dry.

I have seen the bottom type of dispenser at WalMart or Home Depot. I might pick one up.

BTW Feldon, where did you buy the pelletized carrot seeds?

Pelletized carrot seeds? Wasn't me. ;)

I've tried the kind pictured on the bottom, with the dial. I didn't like it. The smallest setting wasn't small enough for things like carrot or lettuce seeds. I think I recall seeing another type sold by Park Seed, different from these two, but not sure. You might want to check there.

And I think Johnny's sells a few varieties of pelleted carrot seed.

I'm convinced that NONE of the seed dispensers work better than the ol' index finger in con★★★★★★★★ with the opposable thumb.

I'm visualizing something which has two rubberized, textured "wheels" and a hand crank. As you turn the crank, it turns a stepdown gear which turns the wheels. The seeds would come out very gradually like they are coming down a conveyor.

Thanks Michele. I'll definitely check out Parks.

IMHO the top one in the picture is junk, bought one and it spilled out alot of seeds at once....both pepper and tomato. Haven't tried the 2nd one, went back to the old finger method.

Got the bottom one as a freebie with a seed order one year. Tried it, didn't use it again. Realized why they were giving it away.:)
