3 and 4 lobed bottoms.

I'm talking about Green Bell peppers, what were you thinking about?

I have just found out there are male and female Bell peppers.
The 3 lobed bottom is the male, the 4 lobed bottom is the female with more seeds and a sweeter taste.

Might account why some pepper seed won't germinate, if you're taking seed from a 3 lobed bottom.
Comments from the experts would be appreciated, just to confirm of refute the above.

I think it is a hokey "story" and there is nothing such as a female or male pepper.

Just like the dumb story about eggplant gender ---it's false. Biology says only the flowers of a plant can possibly be male or female. And that's only if the flowers are "imperfect". Example is squash. They have 2 types of flowers. But both peppers and eggplant have "perfect" flowers. Here is the snopes article that explains it better http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/bellpepper.asp

How can they be male and female when all seeds produce new plants?

I heard that the three-lobed red peppers are sweeter, so I go out of my way to select them at the store. Does anyone know if THAT story is true?
