magic seeds

A friend sent me a kit with those magic tomato seeds you see in the back of magazines that give you 100 lbs of tomatoes from a single plant.I started them may 1st in a recycled egg carton on a warming tray. They popped today, after 4 days.
I have them under an led grow light now.
The egg carton will be a pain, they dry out fast.I put that inside a plastic tray that had no lid so I can water every day from the bottom. The magic seeds are actually the original rutgers variety.

I've never seen or heard of those before, but like novelty things like that. Any idea what variety they may be? What kind of magazine do they typically come with?

Someone who knows I like to grow tomatoes gave me this. 10 pounds; not 100.
Its been a year or two, but I haven't tried it.

Interesting! I wonder how it is supposed to work and what variety they included with it...doesnt seem to be a special varierty, l but I enjoy novelty and gimmiky things for what they are.

If I get free sample or novelty tomato seeds, I always have to try them, even if I know they wont be great!

I watched a video review on this website that wouldent encourage me to bother trying it lol:

my kit was for tomatoes from a place 20 miles away in cromwell ct.usa
they don't offer the tomato kit online anymore but a veggie kit instead.

My guess is the Magic tomato is Giant Tree tomato or Italian giant tree tomato. If I remember right they vine to about 8 to 10 feet and have 1lb fruit. Epcot grew a tree tomato that produces over 1000lbs of fruit. The way they grow that is pretty interesting. Either way and no matter what variety those adds have been around for as long as I can remember. I know my Dad bought tree tomato seeds in the 80's. Basically they sell Five to 10 seeds for a high amount of money. I just planted some giant tree tomato seeds from 2011 that I got I believe from knapps who were a member here, they were a really good price for a good amount of seeds.

Those rocket tomatoes not sure of the variety but I saw those today at dollar tree for $1.00 so no harm in trying those at that price if you got room to try them. The pic on the box reminds me of the grass seed with the paper pulp or what not, except this is like a paper mache hockey puck you plant and the seeds inside sprout.
