Thanks for help and a few pics from Ohio
I just want to thank the patient folks that helped me from seedling lighting, all the way through hardening off and planting. I'm a novice compared to most of you, but I've had so much fun along the way! thought I'd post a few pics as to how it turned out.
I bought seed from Park seed, and from Fruition in western NY state, tried to get the most disease resistant as EB is my nemisis. I've got Golden Medal (like a Mr Stripey), Brandywine, Braveheart (cherry), and Chiapas (grape). I used both fluorescent and LED lighting since I started about 70 plants (tomatoes and jalapenos), all survived, most were given away to friends. Both lighting systems did a good job. For a rainy and now hot season, I'm amazed I have literally no blight (yet). I've pruned bottom foliage and some suckers, ventilation looks pretty good tho it's hard to get used to a more sparse look. Sprayed a number of times w chlorythalonil in between rains & humidity. Mulched heavily with straw and little weedblock around the stems, will have to address a few weeds thru straw though. Lotta straw, I wasn't able to plow the area and didn't want to weedblock the whole thing. I planted late so plants are not really big yet. Using baling twine and plant clips. The shiny ribbons are supposed to keep birds from perching & pooping. Added benefit, garden is festive and neighbors think I'm a little crazy. Will make the frame higher next year. Feeding with Texas Tomato Food, after hearing all the good stuff about it on Tomatoville. thanks again guys & gals. Looking Good
Jan,
Your tomatoes are looking good. It is nice that you have enough space to spread them out like that. Sure helps with disease pressure from overcrowding. You are right this is a great group of folks. |
Looking great! Can't wait to see some ripe!

The garden looks fantastic and you are more than welcome from all of us.
It was a pleasure.:) |
Thanks guys. I do think I over pruned a bit, studying various videos to learn more about proper pruning, but not wanting to over do it. Good thing I don't cut hair for a living :)
