Plamena Pepper

Have some old Plamena Pepper seed that I have managed to sprout wondering if anyone knows anything about this pepper. I did a search for it and found another search was done for it in 2006 but the search had no replies.

With a little Googling it appears to be Serbian and google shows the translation as being flame. However Plamena also appears to be a fairly common name so that translation may not be that good.

They indicate that it is a commercial pepper bred at The Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, Serbia. Given that it shows up as being used in several experiments I suspect that it is fairly common.

It's an Annum.

This also could be Plamen hot pepper variety from Moldova.
This also could be Plamen hot pepper variety from Moldova.
I know this (the word flame) only as the name of the tomato variety Płomień. But as a pepper it has to be hot.

Plamena is from Serbia. It is a long red sweet pepper with medium thickness. By long I mean about 6 to 8 inches. Hope that helps.

Hi Henry,

I just did a check to confirm my information for Plamena and I mistook it for another Serbian variety. The correct description is a mildly hot pepper. It is from Serbia and from the picture on my packet it shows a long fairly thin, about two inch, pepper. It closely resembles a Jimmy Nardello in shape.

Sorry for the original information.

Alex

Thanks Alex, good to know what it is. Now to see if it will grow out here in my short season :]
