Thanks efisakov. I try to make it as relaxing as possible, well except for the pesky mosquitoes.

Very nice! You definitely have a "green" thumb. :D Are you growing the West Indian pumpkin this year?

dustdevil July 30, 2013 12:26 PM

Very nicely landscaped! Time to tear out some grass to make room for more tomatoes and beans ;)

Hey Mark0820,

Thanks, I'm trying to get it greener everyday...:).

No I'm not growing the West Indian pumpkin this year...wa waa. But I am growing 2 other types of winter squash, some Nutterbutter Winter Squash (type of Butternut) from seed I saved from last year, and Guatemalan Blue Banana Squash. Both plants are doing well, my butternut is already flowering while the Guatemalan Blue Banana Squash is growing quite big, looks like the plant will grow as big as the West Indian Pumpkin Squash plant did at the rate it's spreading now. I'll probably grow the West Indian Pumpkin Squash again next year though. As it produced some really big squash for me here in NJ (great for soups/stews/diced up with beans). And maybe just grow it next to the wildflower garden area I have now where there is space for it, that West Indian Pumpkin squash rocked the surrounding lawn/grass of my raised garden bed that year.

Thanks dustdevil...I'm always trying to find ways to get rid of the grass/lawn to plant more vegetables/herbs/flowers/bushes/trees :))...I had to cut down a pine tree I had that died earlier in spring, it was about 20-25 ft tall...not sure what happened to it...but in any case with the new "space" I planted a row of Scarlet Runner Beans and Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans...along with some NutterButter Winter Squash sprawling along the ground. Also had space in that new area for a peony bush along with 3 Tomato plants (Black Krim, Moreton F1 hybrid, and one unknown tomato seedling that came up from last year that I just let grow, my guess is it's going to be either Costoluto Fiorentino or Orange Russian 117, can't really tell yet...). So I guess it wasn't so bad that the pine tree died :).
