"Old" Texas Tomato Food

Hi,

After a couple of years of relative inactivity, I'm getting back into enthusiastically growing tomatoes again.

I have a half full bottle of Texas Tomato Food which I think is probably at least 2 years old and has been sitting out on the patio (in a protected but open location) all this time. Reading old threads here, I gather that all the ingredients in the TTF should still be good except for the mycorrhizae. I have a bag of xtreme gardening MykosWP (wettable powder) that I purchased in July of 2018. Do you think adding some of this to the TTF would restore the TTF to "like new" ;) condition?

If so, about how much? I pour some of the well shaken TTF into a smaller bottle for later use. How much of the MykosWP would you add to about a cup or 250 ml of the TTF concentrate? (They recommend 1Tb per gallon of water for a root drench with the Mykos alone).

Thanks!
Anne

Since the recommended dose of TTF is one Tablespoon to the gallon then I guess you would mix them together 50/50 then apply 2 Tbs per gallon.

You could have some heavy crystallization of the TTF so shake it very well and then strain it through a fine mesh strainer before mixing them together. If you have a lot of crystals that won't mix when the TTF is shaken then you can just put the crystals in a pan with a little water and heat it and stir until they dissolve then put the solution back in the TTF. I do it all the time with solutions that have heavily crystallized. It saves a lot of shaking which doesn't usually work when there is a lot of crystals.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the response - makes sense!

Nice to think that I can salvage the old bottle.
