Jeff

Excellent, smooth taste. We chopped it and put it in some pasta we had last night. Very good.

Sounds like it taste a lot like Thai Green and Louisiana Long Green.

dokutaaguriin June 11, 2011 02:06 PM

I found them to be the sweetest eggplant variety that I have tasted.
Jeff
Did you manage to plant any of the other varieties that I sent?

mdvpc June 11, 2011 03:17 PM

Roper

Have not tasted those other varieties, so cant comment.

Jeff

I also planted from you New Long Nagasaki, Chiku You Naya (spelling?). They have both fruited, but no ripe fruit yet.

Here is a photo of Chiku You Naya (spelling?) that I just picked. Picked 4 of them. This one weighs 18 grams-small fruit. All of them about that size.

Poor handwriting on my part..... it should read Chiku you nasu-
nasu meaning eggplant in Japanese.
My Chiku you nasu has put out its first flower. I am still waiting on Kamo nasu.

Your handwriting was probably perfect-its my poor eyes that I bet is the problem.

Here is a photo of some Kamo and the Japanese Long Green, along with a chile called San Juan Tsile-well known here.

Looking good, Michael. How long will your season last with eggplants?

Jeff

Pina

I am growing some of the varieties you sent me-just put them out recently!

dokutaaguriin June 22, 2011 10:39 AM

Michael,
I notice in Japan that once the plant starts to peter out they prune it down and also root prune with a shovel around the plant. THis way they get a rejuvenated plant that will produce a good sized fall crop.

Jeff

Jeff

Thanks for that info. Is their any special way they prune it?
