NORCATT spring 2007 plant swap!
Anyone up for this? Time? Place?
Note: I have a bunch of seedlings started. I am NOT sure I will have an actual garden this year, but am interested in giving away plants. GTG |
I may be interested. I didn't plant a lot of extras, and what I have is at the "first true leaf" stage so I don't want to count my chickens...
About when would other people be up for swapping? |
I just started my tomatoes March 1st. Assuming I have extras I could bring those but I REALLY don't need more plants. :)
I would suggest a park or quieter setting than last year. |
I would be interested in Chill's extras...actually, my plants are at first true leaf stage, I am in the same place of not counting chickens, but, would be willing if I dont mess up from here on out, depending on timimg.
|
I started mine Feb 11th and 13th. Most only have their first 2 true leaves. I have been growing them in a "greenhouse" window in the kitchen. I had planned on moving them to bigger containers in a week. If someone wants to take them sooner than later that would be great (before I go on vacation in two weeks). I really don't have room to keep all of the seedlings that are transplantable (and I hate to dump them).
I don't really need anythng more, but if someone had Kosovo or BTD, I would kindly accept. |
I also don't really need more, but I'd be happy to give some away. I've got at least one extra of these:
Galina Dr. Wyche's Yellow Cherokee Green Unknown Grape (from Gimme, that he rates highly) Aunt Gertie's Gold Earl's Faux Eva Purple Ball With kids and busy work I don' want to travel too far out of East Bay, but could always give some plants another nearby person for carrying. Good luck with the growing season, Paul |
I'll gladly adopt. I've promised my cousin in Redding some interesting tomatos! Mine are small, at the 2nd true leaf stage as well. Oh, but my garden is far from ready! How did March sneak up on me so quickly? I haven't even made my cages!!

OK then…we need a plan, modify it a couple of times, and make it come together.
Would Kristy, Angelique, & Diana (or at least one of you that can bring plants from, and deliver plants to Sacramento) be interested in visiting the Bay Area? Maybe a park along BART, or elsewhere, that Debra can easily get to? I’d also be open to the parking lot at Morningsun Herb Farm if that works for everyone….and if they don’t chase us off. GTG
So, any ideas on when and where you can / would like to do the swap? |
I'd love to check out Morningsun. I have (gasp) never been there.
|
Hi everyone,
I'm really behind this year. I just started my seeds this past weekend. I've got some 55+ varieties planted and who knows which will sprout for me. Angelique, I have BTD and Kosovo extras if they all come out but I don't know if I'm able to drive so far north to get it to you. Anyone coming down to San Jose that I can pass plants to? Cheers, Annie |
Thanks Annie.
Does Saturday, March 31st at Morningsun Herb Farm work for everyone? |
Annie,
Maybe I could pick plants up from you at Fremont BART? All, Morningsun Herb Farm would be OK with me, but I need to find a way to get from the Fairfield-Suisun train station over to the Farm. I will research this. Thanks. GTG |

Angelique, March 31st works for me! Debra, Glad you're willing to make the trek to Morningsun. I checked the 511 site and it looks like a 2 to 3 hour bus ride with several transfers, although it's not all that far. At the end you'll end up with about a half mile walk  . If you want to catch a cab to Morningsun I can give you a ride back to the train station since all my tomato plants will be gone (hint, hint, everyone  ) What time do you plan to arrive? We can set the meeting time close to the train arrival time if that's OK with everyone. |
Is 10 or 11 am too early?
|
All,
If I get the #724 Capitol Amtrak train out of Richmond (leaves 9:17 a.m.), I'll be at the Suisun-Fairfield station (closest to Vacaville) by 10:03 a.m., so maybe about 10:30-10:45 would be good? GTG |
I should be able to make it! I'm so excited to see what Morningsun is like! Oh sure, I'm going to have to have to do some guerilla planting at my house...peppers? Nope. Flowers? Ha!
|
I should be able to make that, and hopefully the plants can too.

so maybe about 10:30-10:45 would be good?
That works for me. See everyone there. |
Bruce,
Thanks for the offer of the ride back to the train station! See you guys there! GTG |
GTG,
I think that could work for us--to meet at Fremont Bart. Right now, most of my seeds have sprouted but they are nowhere near transplanting. I have tons so anyone needing more, I can definitely pass them over the GTG. How are you planning to carry it all though? Email me anniesyneoh at yahoo dot com I have to look through your list again to see if there's any I want. Maybe we can do our quick swap there. :D Bruce, I seeded some Joe's Portuguese but so far, no sign of any sprouting. Hopefully, it'll come up otherwise I want to hear reports on the taste from you later. Here's my list: Beauty King Indian Strip Green Giant Lescana Heart Neves Azorean Red Grandfather Ashlock Grub's Mystery Green Soldacki Pork Chop Goose Creek Hugh's Carbon Dinner Plate QFL New Big Dwarf Dagma's Perfection (right now only 1 sprouted) Big Rainbow Opalka Speckled Roman Super Italian Paste Tomato Amish Gold Jersey Devil Dr. Carolyn Jaune Flamme Cherokee Green Polish C Redfield Beauty Japanese Trifele Black Brandy Boy Garden Peach Chianti Rose Don Juan Brad's Black Heart Heart of Compassion Kosovo OR 117 Anna Russian Dagestanskiy Ukrainian Heart Nicky Crain Mikado Violettor Cuostralee Kroska Pink Bulgarian Humph Burracker's Fav Lucky Cross Aunt Gertie's Gold Kimberley Berkeley Tie Dye Cheers, Annie |
Rats! We're out of town the weekend of March 31. That's what I get for not checking NORCATT for a couple of weeks... darn.
Bruce, GTG -- I'd happily take plants off your hands if you think you might still have any the following weekend. Any chance I could connect up with you then? I was thinking that if Brad is already doing the Oakland Farmer's Market, maybe we could meet up with him and then go to lunch together? If you have other thoughts, let me know. Annie, if we did something the following weekend in Oakland area (April 7 or 8) would you want to join us? -BetsyLT |
Hi Betsy,
That sounds like a great idea, but I'll be away the weekend of the 7th, the following weekend or the one after that would be better. Thanks for offering to take some of my plants! Please let me know what you want from my list. -- Debra (GTG) |
Hi GTG, I didn't get any emails from you about meeting at the Fremont bart. Do you still want to do that? Most of my plants (save Joe's Portuguese and Russian 117 (rats!)) have come up and most have the start of their first true leaves. Anything from my list anyone wants?
Betsy, I don't know what my schedule is going to look like first week of April. I won't be around from April 11-23--traveling so can't meet during that period either. Maybe later? Bruce, if I can't get Joe's Portuguese to come up, I'll get in touch with you later about meeting. Angelique, wish there was some way I could pass the plants to you. Kosovo and BTD are doing really well for me. I'll have to see if I can get up north sometimes and maybe meet up with you. Have a great swap next week you guys. Cheers, Annie |
Annie,
Since we're all meeting on Saturday the 31st at Morningsun, I thought it would be good if we could meet at Fremont BART the previous evening (the 30th) and swap plants then. Would that work well for you? I get off of work at 5:00 and should be back home by 5:45, then I'll pick up the plants and get on BART again. Does this sound OK? What time would be best for you? Are there any plants from my list that interest you? Please let me know and I'll bring them. Thanks. -- Debra (GTG) |
Hi GTG,
I'd love to try some of your hybrids--Honey and Sugar Snack. I don't have room for anymore than that unfortunately. What time do you think you'll be at the Fremont Bart on Friday? I think it's doable. I'll bring Angelique's Kosovo and BTD. Anyone else wants anything? Everything I have is still quite small and so I am not planning to transplant yet until after I get back from my trip (makes it easier for my friend who is helping me take care of it). But if there's anything you guys want, just holler and I'll repot into a small cup to pass along. Bruce, any chance you can meet us there on Friday evening? Cheers, Annie |
Thanks Annie and Debra. :D Sorry that I didn't reply sooner, I was out of town.
|
Annie,
How about around 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 30th, at Fremont BART? Does that work for you? I'll have Honey Hybrid and Sugar Snack Hybrid set aside for you (the plants are healthy but a bit on the leggy side). I also have Momotaro Hybrid if you want that too. Thanks. GTG |
