Cool! Keep us posted. So this will be F4 or F5?

Comparing my KBX fruit to those pictured, mine consistently produce PL leaves with roundish to slightly oblate fruit. I don't remember ever seeing a fluted KBX fruit. That is one of the reasons I like the variety. From blossom end to stem end, they have always produced round slices of tomato with very little waste. While my KBX store well, they do bruise easily resulting in a spot which may quickly start to rot. If you dry tomato slices, KBX produces very attractive orange slices. They are not attractive in salsa becoming a slightly brown color. While I really enjoy the flavor of the KBX, I don't eat them on BLT sandwiches. BLT's have always required a more acidic tomato flavor than KBX provides. In cooked dishes, they do not produce a strong tomato flavor if cooked in the dish. They do however produce a good flavor if added near the end of the cooking process. They do provide a very attractive appearance in dishes along with their unique taste.

Grady, you sent me F3 last year so these are F4.

Don, I feel the same way about KBX. One of my all time favs and grow it every year. Best in a tomato salad. Love it on a sandwich. A wonderful refreshing taste!

Potted 6 up on Sat and will do more tomorrow. All PL, no RL...which is good! ;)

If you get tomatoes that look/taste like the ones you grew last year, you have a winner!

Looking really good so far. A couple of them have nice, tall, long leaves.

Here's the latest pic. That's Green Giant on the left, my PL baby from Orange Slice grow out, (if it grows true I have a name picked out. Lol ) and KBX.
Too early for many differences but leaves looks thinner. Same height just about.
In my experiences with PL varieties, Green Giant is exactly that! Maybe the biggest plant I've ever grown and KBX isn't too far behind so to compare to those two is silly.

A little over a week, maybe 2, to go before plant out.

Plan on planting at least 6 hoping for the same as last year.

Greg :)

Orange Slice

I have 13 plants from Burpee seed, all regular leaf. Third yr growing these. They are slightly larger than Big Beef and almost as productive. Mine are the most solid, meaty tomato in my garden and taste OK but not like Cherokee Purple, Hillbilly or Mortgage Lifter. They need to turn orange from yellow to be at their peak. Very healthy plants and easy to grow. More productive than the big pinks or yellow reds. But pounds per plant maybe very close. Not a point of interest to me as I sucker to 2-3 stems and cull small fruit too. Never allow more than 3 to a cluster. Sometimes only 2 on the plants that produce the 2lb fruit.

I'm loving that they're getting the same blocky shape as last year. Hoping that they'll be Orange again! Lol :)
