Kelloggs Breakfast vs. KBX
 

I had not heard of KBX until a few days ago all I found was that it appears KBX is smaller is there a difference in DTM, production, and taste?

Really,

KBX is a potato leaf version of Kellogg's Breakfast. DTM, production, taste and size are all pretty much the same.
KBX also doesn't seem to have the same seedling problems that Kellogg's Breakfast has.

Thanks! Are seeds available commercially? I have about 10 seed catelogs and I do not think I remember seeing it in there.

Agree in every way with what Lee said.

This PL version occurred in the garden of gardenmama who posts here and I like it even better than KB b'c of what Lee also said.

I'd like to send seeds to the two commercial places where I send seeds, that's Sandhill and TGS, but I'm not so sure they'd see a meaningful difference just with a different leaf form. But I'll keep working on Glenn and Linda anyway.

The problem is that right now I don't have any KBX seeds to send to anyone.

Gardenmama are you here, Lee, anyone else who could send me some seeds? Glenn can get by with maybe 10-15 seeds for his own seed production but Linda needs more b'c she subcontracts out, maybe 30 would do it for her.

Edited to add that anyone wanting KBX seeds might consider posting that want in the wanted section of the seed Forum. I just PMed MArtha ( gardenmama) about that b'c I don't want to be the cause of folks trying to contact her for seeds individually. There are many folks here who have grown KBX and probably have seeds, I'm just not one of them b;c I never did save seeds, oh horrors.

Yeah, there are no commercial sources of this yet....
Another one that is as good is Orange Heirloom, and you can get seeds for that
from Victory Seeds.

For KBX, I have about 60 seeds left, if Glenn or Linda would like them...
These are saved from 2006 and they grew pure last year....

Lee..how does Orange Heirloom compare to KBX? I was thinking of growing Kelloggs Breakfast this year for the first time. Which one in your opinion is better? How are they different?

I like OH a little better, 1 because it's an NC heirloom, and 2 it has a fruitier taste.
I would say they are both similar in size, appearance, and productivity.
At one of the Tomatopaloozas [tm] we had a tasteoff between the two.
1/2 preferred KB, and 1/2 preferred OH. So, you probably can't go wrong with either one.

OH will definitely be at Tomatopalooza[tm] VI this year.. KB and KBX probably will be as well.

Thanks Lee...I will try the OH, since it will probably grow well here in VA. Maybe I can get some KBX seeds at Tomatopalooza this year. It does look like a very pretty tomato.

I grew KB in 06 and KBX in 07. I had a more vigorous plant and more fruit set with KBX and less disease problems (None) with KBX. I did change my growing regimen in 07 to orgainic using mycorrhizae and Actinovate for disease control. Fruit size for me KBX was larger and again that may have been caused by my new growing regimen in 07. I am listing KBX in the 08 SSE yearbook :D along with Isis Brandy. Ami
