I just got seeds, those are wonderful. On my new list because of these photos.

Would you describe them as sweet? Or more tart than sweet?

KarenO August 11, 2018 06:55 PM

Mine are much more antho. Mild and Sweetly fruity for me.

When picked ripe, they are sweet. Picked early they are tart...

Agree. Makes a great cherry tom salad using various stages of ripe.

wow!! these are so tasty - and beautiful ...... sweet/savoury with lovely texture - thank you Brad!!

Both my plants are very spindly. Is this normal for BAG?

NarnianGarden August 2, 2019 03:34 PM

Mine are still in their deep antho stage. Very strong plants, not wispy at all, plenty of flowers .. I'm not in a hurry to pick any before they look ripe, as I read that they hold well on the vine

For the sake of confusion, those don't look ripe whatsoever. They will take on some yellows and reds when fully ripe.

Completely normal for the variety.

BAG is indeed a wispy variety. Not sure where your seeds came from, its even listed on WBF's website as a wispy.

Mine came from the MMMM swap, not sure there is a name of the source on the envelope/bag.

I agree with that taste description. And fortunately, it is larger than what I consider to be a grape. I am growing it for the first time this year. I check the ones turning toward that rich mahogany by gently squeezing the sides and when they give a little they are near ripe.
Also, thanks to Marsha for sharing.

I've grown it since they were first introduced and I don't get all the exotic colors. I pick mine when the first sign of a red splash occurs. It is perfect then.

If I waited until it looks like the promo photo, it would be total mush.

Wispy for sure, but as the plant matures, the wispiness isn't as pronounced. People loved looking at it in my garden when they are almost full size but still really dark. Most thought it was baby eggplants.

NarnianGarden August 3, 2019 04:41 PM

Wispiness means different things to different people. For me, Artisan varieties look very wispy - Maglia Rosa, Pink Tiger and now Lucky Tiger.
BAG is very different in growth habit and style..
