Tater sacks

So, one of the new ideas I am gonna try this year is to plant potatoes in 30 gallon easylift bags and see how growing taters in a bag goes. I am thinking of trying an artificial soil media as well.

I tried growing them in a large loose bin of hay and leaves, but it got too hot and cooked them. Im going to try 3 gal pots filled with hay, leaves, and compost and hope for better results....

Good luck to you!

I am a little worried about the cooking issue, but, I have a spot in garden that should allow me to keep most of the bag in the shade, while the leaves get sun. Plus, if need be, I can move things around in the early going. We shall see.

Hey Bob,

How many pounds of taters do you think you would get out of a 30 gallon grow bag?

Not a clue. Never tried this before and wouldn't know where to start guessing. I just don't have a lot of dirt available for potatoes and I figure the sacks might work.
