Here is what I found:

"On another note, lots of folks have asked about the Sweet Sandwich onion. For the past six years, I've purchased the entire production of Sweet Sandwich seed. Each year the germination has dropped significantly, so the seed company has discontinued it. Copra makes an excellent replacement in the Northeast and Northwest, First Edition in the Midwest. Both are outstanding keepers, although neither sweetens during storage quite like Sweet Sandwich."

And here is the webpage I found it on, from Dixondale's 2007: http://www.dixondalefarms.com/feb07

I have heard good things about candy onions, the most important thing is the lack of sulfur in your soil.

That is great farm country out there. And you won't have lake effect snow like we have up here in NE Ohio. I'm on the northern border of Portage County, on the Geauga Cty. line.

Welcome back!

Yes those Candy onions grow to be whoppers up here, and they're tasty, too!

I have 2bu. of candy and 1bu. copra to get me threw the winter. I get plants from dixondale in Texas. When younger I stared my own plants but these old numb fingers find it better to get the bigger plants from Texas. GOOD GARDENING TO YA YOPPER
