Vilms Vs. Heidi
 

I received my order from Sandhill. They were out of Heidi and sent me Vilms. I do love Heidi, I do not have any problem with Blossom End Rot and they are good to eat right in the garden. They are large enough that after I blanch and peel, there is still enough tomato left. Some of the smaller paste types have little flesh left after blanching and peeling. Heidi has a firm flesh and is sweet.
Anyone have experience with Vilms?

Vilms is a very durable plant and will stand up to foliar fungus pressure and should yield very well. It's also good and meaty with ok flavor. Fruits are on the small side for a plum.

I will give them a try. I do have some old Heidi seeds so I will see how they compare.

i got my tomato seed Heidi from tomatofest last week

Since I was the original source for Heidi I wanted to see which vendors were carrying it

I edited this ASAP when I realized that Glenn was out of Heidi seeds.


Last I knew Linda Sapp at TGS also lists it but I didn't check.

I don't have time to do a search here but last I knew it was one of Fusion's faves along with many others,

Sandhill substituted for Heidi presumably because they don't have any Heidi seeds.

Glenn Drowns at Sandhill Preservation also sells it, just$2.25 for certified organic seeds and Glenn lists many hundreds of tomato seeds and so much more as well.

Glenn no longer submits his varieties to Tania so she can list him as a seed source, Linda,his wife, simply doesn't have the time to do it. And that's also true of many other seed places as well, and last I knew Linda Sapp at TGS also lists it.

Karen, please read my post above yours since I did read the initial post but temporarily forgot that Glenn was out of seeds and edited my post.

When I'm perfect in ALL that I post I will announce that somewhere here at Tville.

Carolyn, who also notes that the word micturate was a first for me being used here at Tville, and yes, I do know what it means.

My Heidi seed is a few years old but I am pretty confident I can get some seed to germinate. Next year I will get it ordered earlier.

Since Heidi is open pollinated, maybe try saving some seeds from this year's plants and you won't have to worry about buying seeds.

I hope you get some to germinate!
