bulb onions vs.green onions

so, I bought some onion seeds and decidied to consolidate two envelopes of candy onions into one envelope only I opened the wrong envelope and proceeded to pour the candy onion seeds right into the tokyo long packet. sigh. so, is there much of a difference between the new growth of green onions and bulb onions when I start from seed?

Hmm They will look much alike, the green onions should grow faster but not so obviously that you can separate the mixed seedlings into green and bulb.

You can use that whole mix as good green onions though. all onion leaves are edible and that includes bulb onion leaves that are very tasty when immature.
I'd buy some new bulb onion seed and use those just for young green

thats kind of what i was thinking... ... it was only an 1/8 of an oz.

That is a very good idea. I have grown several varieties from seed, and they look the same at first.

Salt, yours are safe. I emptied part of the pack I bought into another seed packet... oops. yours are all candy. ready to go tomorrow to the post office.

sent you a message.

There is a good chance you already know this, but some may not. Onions are somewhat like tomato plants in the fact that you can mass start them and gently pull them apart when it is transplanting time.

And if you grow them 'en masse' in a 50/50 mixture of potting mix and diatomaceous earth, they come apart very easily when setting out. (or even a greater percentage of D. E.)

I had already put them in a plug tray with promix. maybe I can get some DE up at autozone and do more though. a 72 tray was a drop in the bucket for all the seed.
