Favorite Purple Podded Pole Bean

I grew Rattlesnake beans they do great. They are a green bean with purple speckles.

I grew Monte Gusto and Sunshine which are a yellow wax pole bean and they both did great for me as well.

But I have had trouble finding a good purple podded pole bean.

I tried Carminant last year and it was the worst performing pole bean that I ever grew.

I'm just looking for suggestions on a good purple podded pole bean to try for this season.

Thanks

Jim

Blue Coco and Purple Podded Pole Bean have both done great for me

I grew “purple peacock” a few years ago, very prolific, but flavor was average.

For the past 3 years I grew Trionfo Violetto Pole Bean. Great taste.

Blue Coco was my favorite when I lived in a different climate.
I have yet to find any bean that will do well in my 90-100F+ summers, but I plan to try some Blue Coco this year. Maybe I will be able to harvest them in the fall.

Agree about Trionfo Violetto. I grew 8 varieties last year, planted all on the same day, and Trionfo Violetto was the first to pop up, first to climb, first to flower, and yielded delicious beans all the way to a killing frost. Color me impressed. I purchased seed from Fruition Seeds.

I will probably grow only 3-4 varieties this year and Trionfo Violetto will be "the" purple bean. I also loved Crochet de Savoie which I purchased from Secret Seed Cartel and I will grow that again this year, but I found it to be comparatively a very late (though very heavily producing) bean.

i haven't grown enough all purple podded beans to give a good opinion.
my great uncle steve italian pole beans are streaked with purple similar to rattle snake. it is a very good bean. it doesn't do well in extreme heat. in the metro detroit
area once the temps were at or near 90 degrees for a sustained period of time, production would taper off before starting up again once it cooled off a bit.
flavor is right up there with the best. production is pretty good most years.

Either "Grandma Roberts" (round podded) or a flat-podded variety from SSE just named "Czechoslovakian". Both are completely purple, yield heavily, and tolerate some heat; but of the two, Czechoslovakian has been more dependable under trying conditions.

"Blue Marbutt" has round, purple-blushed pods, black seeds, and a somewhat late but heavy yield over a long period.

I've grown "Trionfo Violetto" and "Kew Blue", both of which are flat-podded and very similar. Good flavor, but I was disappointed in their yield.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Rattlesnake might be a bean to try in the hot weather. It seemed to do good for me in the heat here.

Trionfo Violetto is one bean I have not grown that just slipped by me all these years. I think it's because the places I ordered from did not carry that variety. I will have to try it this season!
