It's now a Hurricane @ noon today. The ABC and NBC weathercasts are saying it could be a category 3 when it hits land between Galveston and Corpus Christi.

Not likely but if the Houston area gets evacuated I won't be able to get to work.
The highways going by Bastrop are major routes.

As if the immediate impacts of the hurricane along the coast may not be bad enough, the worst part may indeed be the expected stalling once inland with tremendous rainfall amounts--Allison-esque, if not possibly even worse. Take care of yourselves and families Texans!

All our Texas friends stay safe and I hope the damage is minimal. Please evacuate if requested, we want you back with us when its over!

PhilaGardener August 24, 2017 06:03 PM

20" of rain expected in some areas. Don't take chances! Be safe!

Keeping all resident of Texas, especially my hometown of Texas City, in my thoughts tonight as Harvey changes into a much nastier storm....

Nematode August 24, 2017 09:59 PM

Don't forget to spray with Daconil, looks like bad fungus conditions.

I've been to Texas City. It's right on the gulf near Galveston.

Texas is so big. A local DFW forecaster just said that Hurricane Harvey wouldn't effect this area at all.

Born and raised Salt- a Union Carbide family. Moved to West Virginia in 1979 due to dad's transfer. All still south of the Mason-Dixon line, of course

It was 1984 when I visited Texas city - a very fun place.

Our local FOX station weathercaster just said that Galveston is preparing for 30" of rain

Many storm models are predicting the storm to come on land right north of Corpus Christie, other side of the bay. That is where abouts Rockporter lives. Not sure if it will stall or what it will do so far.

H. Carla came in at about the same and carried it's self all the way to the great lakes and out through Labrador in 1961, terrible damages and spun off many tornadoes
